  • Evening all,

it's been a low spend day for me today, just milk and bread and tobacco for OH,called in to see some friends and they gave us coffee, so didn't buy one out.

Had some sunshine this afternoon, so a bit more time in the garden - it is really benefitting from us not going out and spending money, tidier than it has been for ages!

The grill on our combi microwave died today (cold oven chips, anyone?), so will have to decide whether to just do without, or invest in a remoska. Short term I think do without, and see how we get on.

Just had omelettes for dinner as DD is out, will have roast type dinner tomorrow instead.

Started sprouting more beans today, and made jam crumblie - didn't get around to it the other day. Fruit is down to one orange and two bananas, but still have some tinned.

Working the next 2 days, so they should be NSDs, then shopping for DD's party on Wed.

Enjoying hearing how everyone is doing - keep it up, chaps!

Spent £1 on 4 pts of milk in Ic*l*nd. Thought that was going to be it today, apart from a charity donation, but ended up going to H*meb*se this afternoon to get some fence paint and a brush, as DSIL is going to paint my fence and back gate for me. And, while I was there, I bought a few plants from the reduced section (what I call the TLC section!) So have not been as good as I'd hoped.

Still managing to eat quite well without buying much in.
Breakfast was muesli and orange juice.
Had a banana mid-morning with coffee.
Lunch was fish fingers, with a salad made of grated carrot, gherkins and sprouted mung beans, plus HM bread. And an apple.
Tonight I had a veggie curry with onion, carrot, garlic, celery, more mung beans and a handful of walnuts, with rice (very tasty), and a HM chocolate muffin. Oh, and a satsuma mid-afternoon.

Have set some more mung beans and some chick peas to sprout, and am soaking some pinto beans to cook tomorrow (I usually cook a whole packet and freeze in individual portions).

  • Pizza and salad for tea tonight. We ate all of the chicken yesterday for dinner and for sandwiches for tea.
I won't be spending anything today as i don't intend to go out today. The furthest i will travel is over to the allotment and that is just a short walk from the bottom of my garden.
Used up the last of the sugar yesterday for a cake. I do have some low calorie sugar in a jar. Would i be able to use that if i need to make more cakes?
    Everybody else is doing well.

    NSD yesterday, and hopefully today.

Double checked the fridge yesterday so hopefully no more throwing food away that has gone off.

Going to do a complete Freezer and cupboard inventory, so I can see exactly what I've got and then work out what I will need to buy at the end of this week.

I'm hoping there's enough for me to keep us going for a while with just doing mini stockups - say £20 a week for April.

I thought I might plant a few seeds for salad leaves, spinach and start some herbs. Probably a bit cold outside so thought I'd try them in pots on the kitchen window cill.

I'm loving reading your posts - lots of good ideas and inspiration on here. And I'm really enjoying not shopping. :rotfl:

I've noticed you budget £40 for you and your cat,I spend £150 (sometimes less),will have to look at this. Do you grow a lot of food? I don't have a garden.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

You can use low cal sugar for cakes but you need to do it by substituting Tablespoons not weight. If you do it by weight the cakes will be far too sweet!

  • Hiya girls. Hubby is kind of getting there, but you know men they dont admit to anything!!! Justme and the little lady till thursday as that is when the boys break up. So I am trying a mini one. As good friday I am off home to the lakes with the boys and the little lady. So I am going to have to go and do a top up shop. Hubby is working so he is comming over on Sunday for one night. Plus it is our wedding aniversary next week. He just wants a couple of cheap blu-rays. So that isnt to bad. Suzie is living in her doggie jumper amd everyone loves it. she has got it on as it is so cold round here!!!!
Little miss is dancing around the room to 80's rock music as I had a go at her watching the TV all the time. But I am looking forward to this week. I feel like anything is possible. Plus Dh is taking us all to Malmo were he comes from nxt 1/2 term. So we need to save for that as well.

Oh dear, the Jam [STRIKE]Crumblies[/STRIKE] Concrete was not such a success in this household. :rotfl: When we ate the first test piece on Saturday it was not bad, still warm and crumbly, however fast forward to Sunday it had set ROCK hard.

Seems such a waste of butter, I might try and smash some up in bag and crumble over some yoghurt for breakfast.

No NSD today I'm afraid. Went to Sa*nsb*rys, spent £3.62 on some basics, mostly vegs, then put petrol in the car (£20.15), then paid £7 for car cleaning. Tonight I'll be at my WI meeting, so will have a few small expenses - tea money etc.

But, this is less than I would have spent on a similar day a month or two back, so doing OK really.

Hope you are all doing well!

calicocat - I do have a small garden, but don't grow as much as I used to, due to health problems. Have just started off some runner beans and peas, and have a few chitted potatoes to go in.

Most of my savings are through bulk buying via Appr*v*d Food and RoSS Pa - my shed is a glory to behold! Also, being a vegetarian is a help - have not knowingly eaten meat for over 33 years. I use a lot of pulses, soaked and cooked from scratch, and while I do eat fish, eggs and cheese, I am cutting right back on them. I eat loads of vegs, so do always have tasty and nourishing meals though! With the pulses I cook a whole bag at a time - this morning I drained some off, and bagged them up for the freezer - 6 good portions.

I make all my own bread, mostly sourdough, so don't even have to factor in the yeast. (Sourdough contains natural yeasts. My starter's been going for 15 months now, and the bread is getting more and more tasty with each batch I cook.)

The cat has always eaten dried food, since the vet told me my last cat should have it as it was better for his teeth. This one, Chloe, is not fussy, and will eat any apart from the very cheapest, as long as she has a change now and then. I've been getting big sacks of a well-known make (can't remember which off-hand) from Am*z*n at a real bargain price!

Hope this helps. I got very strict on spending when my DH went in to a nursing home, and pretty much all his pension had to go towards paying the fees, so it was a matter of cutting right back wherever I could.
