    NSD today!

Only trip out was a walk to S**nsb*rys to put about a year's worth of used carrier bags in their recycling bin (only one bag full, as I use my cotton bags nearly always), then called in at the pharmacy to collect my tablets.

Have had a lazy afternoon, reading, and then a bit of pottering in the garden.

Am out of milk, but have some powdered, so will try to manage on that for as long as I can. All meals today are coming out of the stores:

Breakfast - porrid#'e]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]erwwwwww (sorry - my cat Chloe just sent you a message!)

So, breakfast was porridge with dried apricots, and a pot of tea.
Mid -morning - two fruit scones that I found in the freezer, with coffee.
Lunch - egg on toast with pickled gherkins and a satsuma.
    Pot of tea at three!
Tonight I'll have a packet of red pepper spelt, cooked up with some extra veg and with the remains of my somewhat dessicated cheese (which still looks and tastes fine), followed by an individual Christmas pud from App foods - twelve for £1 I think they were! (yes, I know it's nearly Easter!)

Forgot to add - I WILL be spending tomorrow, as I'm going to the OS meet-up in Bristol - really looking forward to it!

What is the OS meet up please ? I am in Bristol too

Make £200 by end of January... £20.42/£200

January no spend days - 1/31
  • Hi everyone,

bit of a spendy day today, but could have been worse. As forseen, we did have lunch out, but at a cheap cafe so only came to £11 for toasties and coffee. Bought fishfood and suncream, so no luxuries, and avoided the clothes shops!

Mr MM and I are both working tomorrow (last day at my second job) and will both be taking packed lunches, so hopefully only spend will be the Saturday paper.

We have not been much affected here (West Wales) by the petrol shortage, but there will be lots of visitors over the hols, so hope we don't run out in the next few days! We pretty much keep our car use to essentials anyway - work and college run - except for a trip out on Sundays, but being rural we still get through the petrol. Cars are both about three quarters full at present, but we have a lot of work miles in the next two weeks.

Well done everyone on the savings this month, great to have a little bit put aside. I will be aiming for another £100 for the holiday fund next month, have a couple of short breaks in the Summer so would like some spending money!

    Have a good evening everyone.

Evening Ladies, hope you are all well x struggling with FF at the moment after doing so well last month. I've not spent today, but need a few bits at the local shops in the morning, just over a mile away. I'm going to suggest to the girls that they go on their bikes, not sure how well that will go down:p, because I'll need to use the car for ald1 on sunday. we have about half a tank but the longer we can make it last the better:)
after the ald1 shop i intend to make everything last until next payday.

DH has decided that we can't afford for him to have his operation right now, despite the pain he's in:(. he gets 10 days sick pay then ssp which, with my wages, wont even cover the rent never mind the bills and food if he needs to take off the full recommended 3 months:eek:.
so now the plan is to stop spending, eke everything out and save like crazy so my darling can have the op he desperately needs to ease the pain:( (I'm so proud of my man and love him so much, can you tell;))

I went for a haircut yesterday, to cheer myself up...not very frugal I hear you shout, well:p. I found some random man on twitter who is training at the toni&guy academy in manchester. He needed a hair model to complete his assessment. he did a brilliant job and graduated with distinction today. I took a bottle of juice (squash from home) and it just cost me £2.50 for the tram fare home:T.

I have prepared my meal plans for the next 2 weeks based mainly around what we have in, and I'm really going to get stuck in to frugal fasting.
outings with the kids..a friend gave me 2 vouchers for a free session at the soft play that her kids are now to old for.
we'll be spending a lot of time at the allotment. kids can dig for treasure, climb trees, sow seeds, chase frogs, count worms...
we have a football, kite, spacehoppers in the garage and a park just over the road. also several other parks within half an hrs walk/10mins drive.
the library is round the corner and often has story/craft sessions.
we will have at least 1 pj day, where we don't even get dressed, just snuggle up on the sofa with popcorn(freshly popped, just 59p for a big bag of popping corn from localish ethnic supermarket) and a stack of dvd's.
they'll also have friends to play/go to friends.

well that post was a bit longer than i had anticipated!!
    love to all

  • Hi everyone! lisakay it is hard and I sympathise, I think just not spending is hard, but then we are trained into spending money and at times I think I live vicariously through spending money. But each day filled with doing things - experiences that enrich you - rather than spending money you don't need to spend is one day nearer to Nevada! Anyway got a bit deep on my anti-consumerist soap box :o today I cracked and went to the shop and bought a bottle of wine (well actually bought 6 as it is £10 for 3. But 4 have been stashed away for April) and got some bernadaise sauce (25p), a cake (40p), 2 croissants (15p) and some oriental stir fry veg (10p). So tomorrow is steak from freezer and stir fry for dinner, croissants for breakfast in bed with my lovely oh who puts up with so many of my new fads! and the cake will be taken with some coffee on a long walk tomorrow.

Think I have enough food for the weekend, as the veg box arrived today but on Monday I really do need to do a proper shop as it really is some wonderfully weird combinations of food now!

I think (I know I've said this before!) but I'm going to do a monthly shop of big items - tinned & bulky stuff and then I'm going to just pop to the supermarket at time when items get reduced to try and bring our grocery spends down. After having the veg box for 2 weeks I think from now on once a week I'm going to walk to the farmers market which is almost on my way home from work and just get a selection of things and make it last!

Thank you catzine for starting this thread. I hope it really has changed the way I do my food shopping from now on :T :A

There is a whole thread about it - I think its tomorrow. A bunch of our lovely Old Stylers are having a get together.:)
    Do what you love :happyhear
  • I managed another day without spending. We had chipolatas, last of the mushrooms, beans and scrambled eggs.
I was given a big bag of fruit off one friend today and a dozen eggs off another friend who has chickens. Very pleased with that.
I will have to go shopping tomorrow as am running low and also because i have a £5 off a £40 shop at tesco which runs out either Saturday or Sunday. It will be a shame not to use it.
Well done to everybody else :D.

Broke my fast today - 78p on veg in Aldi and 45p for a packet of seeds and a coat at a bootsale. The coat was a real bargain - a brown waxed jacket type perfect for walking the pup. It was on a 25p rail - by mistake apparently but the bloke let me have it anyway :T Didn't get anything else as stuff was rather pricy for a bootsale - or I've turned into a miser :rotfl:

Breakfast was 2 potato pancakes from the freezer with home made jam, lunch will be a jacket potato and beans and tonight a stir fry with liver and some noodles.

Back on the fast tomorrow - aiming for the full week

Hi Ya Fiscal Fasters well its the end of the month and I have over £22.00 to bung into my holiday fund as my new month starts tomorrow I have been shopping and bought all I need for the week so no more shopping for me until next week-end.:j:jI have the boys on Monday and Tuesday but we will(weather permitting) be going to the local park on Monday.:j
On Tuesday one of them has the dentist's, and after that I may take them down to the big Riverside Country park, and they can go into the big play area there .I'll take a picnic and lots of squash and in the boot of the car is a kite ,a football and a cricket bat and ball so it will keep them busy for most of the day, also costs nothing.
Wednesday I have free as my DD has the day off and Thursday my eldest DD is taking my to London for lunch,((Bella Italia ,my favourite) and the matinee of Billy Elliot (part of my christmas presssie) We go every year to a different show,I love it as its the one day of the year i get her all to myself without children or her job getting in the way.We always have a smashing day out, last year we saw 'Phantom of the Opera', and then before that The Jersey Boys' I love musicals and a show in London and lunch is my idea of a terrific day out.She has changed up a ten pound Tesco voucher so lunch will be rather nice and not cost anything:D

I have so much on next week i don't think I would have time for shopping even if I wanted to (which I don't)I cooked some Jam crumblies and took them with me to the quiznight last night (I know it cost a fiver entrance but it was for the local hospice so it went to a better cause than tesco's tills ):j
I have done my menu's for next week already and I'm pleased at all the bits I shall be using up .I have some stock in the fridge which I shall use up later today as I am making some leek and potato soup .
My freezer mountain is slowly going down but its seems to take ages to shift.
new month tomorrow so back on the F/Fasting wagon again .Its really helping me to utilise what I've got in store instead of buying more in when ever I go out,and its so nice not to be trailing around looking at stuff I really don't need .Its has freed me up a bit more time to do what I like doing which is just pottering around indoors .

I had to pick my DGS up this morning as he was coming to trim my lawn for me, and drove past Tesco's and it looked like it was heaving in there.
Re; the petrol, at the moment no one has run out of it locally. I have almost a full tank as I only top up once a month anyway and I don't really use that much .But I have to use it to go to DDs as its too far for me to walk comfortably and its not on a bus route. We are doing so well at this chums and well done to catznine for getting us all fasting:beer:
