Hi purplekitten, over 2 weeks with no shopping is impressive - well done!

Thank you  Problem is I have food planned and defosting for tomorrow, and don't like shopping at the weekends - I don't do crowds if I can avoid it :) so could be some interesting recipes over the weekend.:rotfl:

    What a fabulous idea.

I've only read the first page but I feel really inspired to have a go at this. I have seriously overspent on food in the last few weeks and I really need to get a grip and drastically reduce my spending.

I will do a fridge, freezer and cupboard inventory tomorrow. I know I need eggs and milk but other than that I think I can do this.

I will read up all the pages for tips and motivation.
  • I don't intend to spend any money again today. Have run out of bread but yesterday found 2 packs of rolls that you bake lurking in the cupboard. So have just cooked some of them for packed lunches. Dinner tonight is chicken breasts. They aren't very big but will have to do. The carrots are looking a bit bendy so they will have to be used. Have some frozen veg so will use some of that. I'm going to make a jelly, can't remember the last time i made one!
I hope everyone has a good day.

of course you can lessonlearned! The more the merrier! Good luck, its very liberating. I can't believe how well we have lived food wise on so little! The last time I did a big shop was on the 12th. I did a top up shop on 22nd and spent just under £20 and I don't think I'll go shopping again before April :T very liberating & quite an eye opener!

    ok meals for the day:
    porridge for breakfast

lunch a little bit of cream of mushroom soup (lo from pasta bake on tues) added some milk to make it more than a mouthful! Another slice of tomato tart out of freezer, banana & tinned peaches and 1/2 a pot of yogurt. 1/2 an apple & a satsuma for a snack. Dinner is lo chilli out of the freezer and a jacket potato & a slice of jam crumble cake mmmmmm

Really is starting to get slim pickings now!

Not unexpected, I spent money tonight getting my hair cut, but did go for the cheap option without the wash and blow dry. ;)

Must add this - Kiwisaver - I had porridge with maple syrup for breakfast yesterday at my friends' - Mr Friend is Canadian, and got me to try it (and was amazed that I never had!) - it was lovely!

I don't know why I never thought of it before, I love porridge with a splodge of golden syrup and it always surprises me when people turn their noses up in disgust at that. They don't know what they are missing. :D

I think we're conditioned out of habit to go and bring back a haul of shopping every week, whether we need it or not. I've yet to sit with pen to paper but have to make some plans for next week and write my shopping list. Our stocks are now pretty well depleted and choices are not only limited by the availabilty of stuff but the time required or missing ingredients to make things.

I will try to keep shopping to a minimalist level again this week but won't set a limit on spends and just get whatever I need to last until next Wednesday and then I'll do a big shop for Easter. The freezer does oddly still seem to have quite a lot in it, so I'm going for a rummage around in there before I decide on my list.

I can barely bring myself to face another tin of tuna for lunches tomorrow, but the alternatives are too much effort just now.

:o Well I didn't do well yesterday either...I took DD and her BF out foraging. I had to put petrol in the car before we went and with the threats of strikes I thought I better fill it up properly (£50) and then I realised I had no water for the dogs with me, so bought a bottle of water and a plastic box to pour it in (disorganisation!!!) and they had mini eggs on a deal, so they fell into my basket too. I'm hanging my head in shame...but I guess it was still a cheap outing!

Well today I bought the daily paper for Dh (he wont do without it) and also bought myself a pair of summer trousers in the sale (i have no real summer clothes) so this is bought out of the money I have recently made on eb@y.

No food spend. for the past 3 days apart from milk so doing good. Going to really get into it after Easter and cannot wait itching to do it.

Going to keep a log of everything i spend under different headings of food, clothes for me and clothes for ds. And also petrol to see how much I spent.

I have got half a tank and as I am away all next week wont be putting it anymore. The queues I just seen have seriously put me off - Dh needs to fit up his gas guzzler though as we are away from Monday onwards.

  • Hiya gang, well have had a pretty nice warm day, shame its going to end next week ohh no she cries!!!! Back into fits of depression yet again! But I had a lovely morning Eldest idiot I mean son came in from school with his crotch split!!!! I tried but I couldnt fix it. So I went to the local CS and bought him some school trousers as he leaves in 8 weeks!!!! So I dont feel bad for spending £4.60 on two pairs!!! I bet he hates them!!! I did clean my carpet this morning and it looks 100% to what it is. I have never seen so many hairballs in my life. I didnt realise that a carpet could produce so many!
Little madam was helping me tidy up but she decided she had a headache and went to bed! shes comming up 3 so what is she going to be like when she is older. But she soon came down for juice and crackers when I asked her. At least the spending has settled down at long last.
We just have 3 hospital appioments to deal with over the next few months!!! All in Teeside. I sometimes wonder if it is a message to move back here. But I wont I love my new life here!
Has anyone seen my last marble:A:A:A:A
