Bit of a fail today. We have totally run out of coffee which is DS(20) start up juice for the morning, and VITAL at 6.30 if he is to catch the bus. We basically make him sit up in bed and hold a cup of boiling liquid, so he doesn't dare drop off to sleep again...so maybe we should try plain water? I think he does sip it sometimes, which is why it needs three sugars... anyway I went into ald! and they HAD NO COFFEE:eek: so I ended up buying easter eggs before they sell out...and a chorizo to make tonight's dinner stretch to five. It could have been worse....

    Definately not spending tomorrow...

    evening!

    Jam Crumblie

    6oz butter/marg
    6oz dark soft brown sugar
    6oz porridge oats
    7oz plain flour
    pinch of salt
    1/2 teaspoon aking powder
    4oz jam

lightly grease an 8" square baking dish(I use my ceramic lasagne dish as its microwave safe)
    Cream fat and sugar together
stir in the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly
Press half the mixture into the dish
melt the jam in the microwave and then spread over the base
crumble on the remaining oat mixture pressing it down lightly
bake in the microwave for 7 minutes on full power
cut into squares and cool in the dish.

It is delicious and any jam can be used also a Christmas version uses mincemeat and has icing sugar dusted on top. A warning - its very more-ish! :D

I havent made it myself for a while but I might give it a go as soon as I've got some spare time.

aw thanks taplady! I made this instead of twinks and its delish (twice in one day I've eaten something delish! :rotfl:) oh says its the best cake I've ever made mmmmmmmmm

  • I managed my nsd yesterday. I am hoping to do the same today.
Leftover gammon is for packed lunches today with pickle. Leftover salad is to go with chicken breasts stir fried with a couple of peppers that are lurking in the bottom of the fridge. I also made crumble topping that i didn't use yesterday so we will have apple crumble with the apples that are looking a bit wrinkly.
Hope everyone has a good day.

I'm so pleased you both liked it - we both love it too :)

DS is at his gfs for tea so DH is fending for himself tonight. I get my tea for free at work but quite often its not something I would eat as I dont eat meat only fish. Tonight its beef casserole so need to think of an alternative for me - either a jacket spud or something from my freezer.

We will have to shop early this week - Thursday evening when we collect DS from work - we might get a few whoopsies though.:T
We've got a funeral Friday(sister-in-law) on my other day off and then I'm working all weekend so no chance to shop.

Have started a short list of things we've run our of.

Have a good day all x

well i have sorted of started this non buying - nsd yesterday today was just milk, and paper - however I have to go out and get some fuses for my smoothie maker as really want to use up all the fruit in the house. Going to really get into this after the easter break. Looking forward to the challenge. Tea tonight is the left over bolognaise husband hated this week mixed with some left overs in freezer to make a lasagne. So no cost there - already had the pasta sheets just needed more milk for the white sauce.
Hopefully tomorrow will be a nsd too.

Well, didn't manage to not spend money yesterday - we went on our balloon trip and bought a souvenir photo (£15) and we were so tired and hungry on the way home that we hit the kebab shop...:o £9.40 for two medium chicken doners and 1 portion of chips - 'twas very yummy though!

Lunch today will be more of yesterday's courgette and tomato soup with hm bread if really hungry. DS3 will have a sandwich with hm bread and yogurt. We can then finish off a tub of grapes from teh weekend. DD, DS1 & DS2 all had packed lunches for school. DH has an all day meeting at work so is being fed :D

Dinner tonight will be a mix of things - we're using up fridge supplies before going away at weekend and 2 of the children are out before 6pm. DD will have soup with baguette (leftover and frozen) DS1 spag with lo bolog sauce and garlic bread, DS3 pasta with lo plain sauce and garlic bread, DH & I the uneaten pasta sauce from last night with some of our stock of pasta and garlic bread for him and plain bread for me :D and DS2 something different to all of us, I expect!

I do need to spend £5 today on DD's drama class. Also need to post my ebay parcels - but the postage is paid for by the buyers on those, of course:rotfl:

  • Morning guys yay to Wednesday, the weekend is in sight and the weather is beautiful :D

Today's food looks something like this - porridge for breakfast & 2 cups of fresh coffee at work :T

picnic lunch is a ham roll, a slice of tomato tart taken out of the freezer last night, an apple and a slice of tapladys jam/hobnob cake

Dinner is cottage pie using LO mince from lasagna the other day - oh ate some so not much meat. Will be bulked up with beans, leak & sweetcorn ;)

Am getting used to not having a glass of wine in the evening now (much to my embarrassment it was really hard to start with) but am now looking forward to sharing a bottle with oh on Saturday when I next intend sending cash ;)

Here I am laughing to myself reading all your lovely posts. Like they say, you can take the girl out of the out of the UK... but I find my meals are strikingly similar on the other side of the world.

Breakfast: tinned sliced peaches and greek yoghurt sprinkle of muesli
Lunch: Cheese 'smorgasbord' of chopped cucumber, tomatoes, few olives and crackers, plus an apple. :D
    Dinner: HM lasagna from freezer

Todays meals from stores, porridge with maple syrup for breakfast

Thanks for that idea, I was doing anther reshuffle of stuff in the pantry this evening and found a whole unused flagon thing of proper Canadian Maple Syrup - must be years old  and I wondered if it might have gone off. It seems fine though, so I put it back rather than chuck it (as was my first instinct) but wondered to myself how might I use it. Much as I'd love pecan and maple danish pastries or stacks of pancakes, need to consider my weight loss efforts do need to somehow get back on track .

I cooked some pasta tonight to mix with some tuna, mayonnaise and what remains of salad veggies for next two days lunches. Sausages defrosting for tomorrows dinner with jacket potatoes and baked beans and then that'll be me done for the week. Time flies!! Another shopping list and meal plan to start tomorrow, I have a feeling it may include some Jam Crumblie things. :T
