  • Evening all, welcome to all the new peeps!

First day (trial) in a new job for me, went OK, was v. glad I had a big bowl of porridge for breakfast as lunch was not provided, made do with a cereal bar I had in my bag as I wasn't too hungry. Back tomorrow, I'll be taking sandwiches! So NSD for me.

Dinner is jacket potatoes with cheese, coleslaw and salad - nice and easy.

Roasted pumpkin sounds yummy Spendless - I wonder if there will be any sold off cheap at the weekend?

Mam of five, keep going, you can do it!

Nannyg, milk powder is a good idea, I usually run short of milk on this challenge.

Keep going everyone, back tomorrow. Have a good evening.
  • Fiscal Fast: Day 4 (I think?)
It was SO COLD today I didn't even leave my appartment so, it was a no spend day!! Yea!! I've just been busy 'Elfing' aka making the scarf for my parish priest for Christmas. I've also been thinking of what to do for my Dad. I have so many ideas for him, I may have to write them down and choose one!!
I can actually see the back of my freezer!! I didn't think it existed. :) I am little by slowly clearing it out. I think by the time my fiscal fast is over (friday) I'll have even more room in my freezer!!
I have planned and budgeted so that I can get a certain type of yarn for my Mom's Christmas gift. A soft purple Chenille yarn. I am going to knit her some hand warmers aka, fingerless gloves. I will knit her two pairs!! I'll do it on Saturday when my FF is over.
I hope everyone is doing well and keeping warm. (I'm trying to keep warm!!) On with the Fiscal Fast!!
Frugal in '14!!!! God Bless all of You!!! Frugal = 'Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without!!!'-Saying from the Great Depression in the US 1929-39. Love you, Erica Dawn

Hi everyone - The Carbonara worked :T :j Just mixed some whipping cream with grated cheese and an egg yolk, heated it up in a pan and then poured over my pasta, chicken and bacon. Teen loved it despite initially grumbling that I hadn't gone and bought a ready made sauce, but wanted to eat it quickly, so just dished it up. Then he complained that it had no accompaniment. Don't think he's ever complained in his life before about wanting veg .....see what eating roasted abandoned pumpkin does for you. :rotfl:

DH not only spent nothing yesterday. He even sorted out his expenses without me getting on to him about it.

Just a thought, maybe this is reverse psychology and they think by being enthusiastic and not moaning I'll loosen the purse strings ....think again.;)

Walked to my mums instead of driving and though I thought I was going to have to buy a stamp to reply to an outreach course DS has been accepted on was pleasantly pleased to dsicover they'd included an SAE. So NSD to report.

DH came in late so didn't have chicken curry. He made do with gammom and salad sandwiches, which he also has taken for lunch today. The curry will be for our tea instead with the samosas and bhajis and rice. Kids will be having pizza and jacket pots as we have DD's friend sleeping overnight.

Not entirely counting today as it being Bonfire Night we are going out tonight, weather permitting, but will be happy if we don't spend until that point.

I went into both Mr A and Mr T this morning and they'd only reduced there pumpkins to 50p! Will check again on Thursday when I go out.

Don't know if you realise but you don't need to cut and freeze your 2nd pumpkin (unless of course you want to) but can just leave it until you're ready to use it. It'll keep for months if it isn't damaged.

  • Thanks Starmummy and joedenise for the pumpkin info. Think I may have to buy milk tomorrow, so I'll have a look then in Lidl and Morrisons.

NSD for me today, took lunch to work and avoided the cakes! Not much else to report, new job is OK so far if a bit humdrum.

    Have a good evening everyone.
  • Yesterday and today were not No-Spend days, but I'm all set up (I think) to last the week without getting anything else.

Went to A*di yesterday with my son, and spent just under £6 on bread flour, frozen sweet corn, a pointy cabbage, vine tomatoes, satsumas, bananas and 4 pts of whole milk (which I dilute half and half with water in my milk jug every day). Have plenty of other foods to be going on with.

Then I fell off the wagon by treating the two of us to tea and cake in a nice cafe that we passed. Mind you, we shared one chocolate brownie between us (they're big enough for two!) That cost me £5.80. But I guess that comes out of the "pocket money".

Today I popped to Mr S. for loo rolls, and treated myself to a bag of basics hot chocolate (love a mug of it before bedtime), so spent another £2.99.

Now to trap those moths back in my purse......!

    Good luck everyone else!
Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!
  • Winchelsea, asda`s basic hot choc is alot cheaper at only 58p a tub (same quantity as sainsburys) and its lovely, i make it like a cuppa tea, mostly hot water with a bit of milk (oh and 4 marshmallows and squirty cream :) x but i dont put the last bit in me tea lol x
One day I will live in a cabin in the woods
