  • Morning all, well, we have been lucky here and missed the worst of the storm, even the rain is clearing now thankfully. Hope everyone else is OK too.

Parsnip, hope you are having a good time in N.Wales. Have you ever been to Portmeirion? It is one of my favourite places, an Italianate village where the 1960s series The Prisoner was filmed. Worth a visit if you have a chance.

Erica, sorry to hear of your mum's reaction. It seems very unfair as you are good enough to lend her the money.
Well done on the bargains! And thanks for your good wishes. Keep your chin up.

SS, hope you had a lovely day with your DD.

Thinking about it, I have no need to spend for the next 2 days so am aiming to make these NSDs. Had a cooking day yesterday (my friend cancelled because of the weather) so have meals for the next two days, and choc truffles to sell at the fair (any leftovers will of course be consumed at home, can't possibly waste them!). All the cooking/crafting is stopping me from getting too bored and spending, although I will have to restock on food fairly soon.

Cup of coffee now and then a few chores before I steward the craft fair this pm.

    Take care everyone! MM.

  • Hi all, just a quick check in tonight, I am soo tired been up since before 4 this morning for no reason than I couldn't get back to sleep , and a long day at work too.
I had a lovely day with my dd yesterday, spent a bit but some of that was some Xmas shopping which I wanted to get out of the way., obviously spoiled my daughter and had A lovely lunch out. Just as well I am fiscal fasting until the first :)
Hope everyone is well, thinking of you all, and hope no one was too battered if they were caught in the storm. Ericadawn hope you didn't get any snow either.
    Speak soon xx
  • It is cold and wet here in the Sierra Mountains of California. It is a No Spend Day for me. Yay!! I'm just anxious for the first of Nov. I get my Dissability Check. Busy doing laundry at the moment. I have to pay to use the machines but, I already have the money saved up for that so I don't consider it ruining my continued fiscal fast.
Sometimes it seems as if the first doesn't come fast enough. I hope everyone is safe and warm, I know I am. :) Have a good evening everyone!!
    -Erica Dawn

  • Pleased to be able to report that I have not opened my purse since Sunday evening. Those moths must be getting very cosy in there!

My meals have all been cooked from ingredients in the cupboards, fridge and freezer. Yesterday I soaked a big pan full of chick peas, and cooked them in the evening. Then I made a lovely curry (very fruity, with dried apricots and sultanas and a chopped apple from my tree, plus all the usual vegetables, and chick peas of course.) Ate half of it, froze the rest as a "ready meal" for one day when I feel too tired to cook. Then I divided up the remaining cooked chick peas into one-portion packets, and froze them too.

I thought I was out of bread yesterday, but found some in the freezer. Started a sourdough loaf off before I went to bed, kneaded and cooked it this morning. (Have had a sample off the end of the loaf - lovely!)

We'll see how long the purse can remain shut!
Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!
  • My week long fiscal fast starts tomorrow. I am actually looking forward to it!! I need to dig around in my freezer and figure out what all is in there. I may meal plan tomorrow, and figure out what I am going to have for the weeks meals.
I will have some necessary spends, Rent, bills...(ugh) but will fiscal fast untill the 8th. I think I have everything in, that I need.
Take Care all, Happy Halloween!! Erica Dawn

  • Hi chums well I have been offline for a week as my computer caught a nasty 'virus' and I it had to go to visit the 'puter Dr. I got it back today and the hard drive had to be completely 'scrubbed' so I have lost 5 years of family history research, all of my photos and all of my saved data so I now have a completely 'clean machine' but no email addresses or anything left on here.plus it cost me £70.00 for the clean up.So my belt will be tightened so tight in November it will have to go round me twice.Definitely emergency shopping only this month as I have 6 family birthdays before Christmas as well and all the Christmas presents to get.Good job I am dieting it won't feel so bad as I am not eating much at the moment anyway.I have given up bread completely now and feel so much better for it.I do have quite a large stock of foodstuffs plus a crammed freezer so it won't be too bad,but no treats for me for awhile.
Glad your all getting on OK though
    Onwards and upwards
    Cheers chums JackieO xxx
  • ((HUGS)) JackieO, I certainly understand what it is to really have to tighten your belt. I am doing the same thing as, I have had to use a lot of electricity just to keep warm! I have also heard that we will get a SMALL cost of living adjustment starting next year, so my budget will continue to be tight.
Also I heard that the Government may get rid of the food stamp card. (I don't have one, so it won't make much difference for me.) I'm used to living 'tight', the fiscal fast certainly helps. I'll be on another FF until the 8th of Nov.
I've been doing A LOT of Fiscal Fasts. :) I can't complain, it's good practice. Some people consider being frugal to be a 'bad word.' I just think that there will be a time when they will have to be frugal.
    Take Care friends!!
