Hi everyone, well day 2 of the fiscal fast and I stayed in all day today so it hasn't been difficult:rotfl:

Ive run out of milk, but I found some dried milk powder that I used to use for my breadmaking (don't do it at the moment) so I made some of that up, the only other thing I will have to get this week is toothpaste as I forgot the other day when I did my shopping and some batteries - these aren't urgent but I have some that need replacing.

I have been catching up on some knitting today and just generally chilling out as I'm usually at work on a Sunday, and Im off to bed after a lurk on here for an early night :)

  • Hello everyone!! It was a no spend day here for me!! Yay!! I've been looking online for some knitting patterns. Nothing really specific, but if it catches my eye and doesn't look too hard to do I think I will try it.
I am a little concerned about runing out of things to drink on my fiscal fast but, I will deal with it when I get there. I have been busy knitting a scarf for my Parish priest for Christmas that I just haven't even thought about spending. I'm more concerned with getting the scarf and other Christmas gifts done. Maybe that is a good distraction for me?
I may even have some Christmas cards stashed away so it may even be a low spend Christmas. Although I confess to 'splurging' and buying myself a bottle or two of sparkeling Apple Cider (when it's on sale). That is my yearly treat as I don't drink alcohol.
I have a prayer shawl meeting on tuesday. I am looking forward to it because when it gets cold I don't get out much. When I get too cold my muscles stiffen and hurt because of my Cerebral Palsy.
I hope everyone is keeping warm and safe!! Hugs to all and I hope it is a no spend or low spend day for you!!

Hi everyone -long time since I last posted on here, but I am fed up of spending money -seriously. If any of you have ever had major work on your house that's made your kitchen out of action and had to eat out all the time and got sick of it. That's how I currently feel about money. Every week we have had additional expenses since summer-time and I'm now 'bored' with it.

So, I am not spending anything when something we already have will do. So with that in mind can someone help me with a cheats cheap version of a carbonara sauce that teen has requested for tea tonight. I have bacon, chicken, cheese (mature cheddar) 2 or 3 eggs, 1/2 an onion and whipping cream.

A classic carbonara sauce is just egg yolks, cream & cheese I think. Have a look on line - I'm fairly certain there's a Delia recipe which just uses those (although hers is probably double cream rather than whipping but I think it would work).

  • for carbonara I fry off onions and bacon, chuck in pan with the cooked spaghetti, slop in a bit of milk, add seasoning if desired, then separate an egg and mix in the yolk. sprinkle some sort of cheese on the top.

Thanks I found on old thread about it and mixing the cream, cheese and yolks will create a sauce. Teen likely to want to do when he gets in, so am using extra chicken portion for something else for DH. I bought some soup a while back had 1/2 last night and it's spicy and curry-tasting IMO, so pouring that over chicken with rice and have some indian nibbles that I bought for 20p on whoopsie a while ago. Love it when I feed family 'leftovers' and they think they are getting a treat. ;)

Yesterday we have 1 steak left over from mine and DH sat night tea, teen had that with some sticky bbq sauce, chips and then I roasted some pumpkin chunks (fetched pumpkin in off doorstep - shhhhhh) some yellow and green pepper strips and two halved cherry toms with a drizzle of oive oil. Put it on teens plate without saying a word and he wollfed the lot! Amazed!
  • Hi I mainly lurk but always read this thread, it really does focus the mind when you try not to spend money, you are all doing well with your NSD and will try to join and see how I get on. Keep up the good work.
