  • well evening all, i got through my second ff day, helps that the weather has been awful, so just want to stay in the warmth. i am not sure if i will make the 7 days as i have nearly completely ran out of veg and salad, will have to go to local green grocer, i also get a sack of potatoes which lasts about a month, all main shops are a good bus ride away, but we have a good selection of independent shops just down the road which is helpful and also a co-op, hope u all still doing well with your own challenges xx

hi and thanks for your comments, we have had a few spots of mold in the flat as we are in basement but the last 6 months seems to be spreading everywhere, even on wardrobe doors and some of my shoes that were just in bedroom floor, i think i will invest in some of those microwave ones as we are stuck here till we can save the money to move. on a good note i have had a no spend day .

Have you or next door had work done on the houses?[Being nosy 'cause it seem's strange to only have just started] I know the electrice one's arn't cheap to buy, but it sound's like you need a dehumidifer, but don't worry, you can get the static gel box dehumidifer's in the £ shop's,should last about 3/4 week's before it need's throwing away, or you can get the pottery egg type with silica crystel's in, which you dry out in the microwave so can re-use for year's at a time, they cost about £10.hth

  • Hi all, just finished watching GBBO was fantastic, really pleased Francis won.
Ericadawn will be great to do the same weeks can keep each other motivated. :)
I haven't spent anything today other than for the first time this month, had to put fuel in my car. ( I have a separate purse for fuel and on average spend £200 per month :(. However as I have not been at work for nearly 3 weeks this months I still have £160 left.. I am going to put that away in a sealed jar I have with odds and ends of change in , as I like to start every month with a new purse for fuel). Next month though I will use the full amount as have a few meetings to attend, and although company reimburse it is 4 to 6 weeks after we have submitted our claim.
Now the bake off is finished was thinking would use Tuesday night to learn how to knit, as I keep reading about everyone else's projects, however plans spoiled again, just found out that one of my other fave programmes, The Mentalist , starts 29th, so am very excited about that :) (sad but true...that I am excited about it that is.) Can you tell Tuesday is my Main TV night ...
Hope everyone has had a good night too. Speak soon x
  • I am so tired... It's been a long day. Up at 6:15AM out the door by 7:30AM for morning prayer then the Rosary and Mass. After Mass, I had two prayer shawl meetings to go to. I got back at 4 o'clock this afternoon.
Anyway, not a penny spent today, the lady who I knit prayer shawls with bought us lunch:) and then gave me a whole bunch of dinner rolls (now divided up and most frozen) so that should last me for the rest of the week, if not longer. :)
Secretstasher, if you need a book to help you learn to knit, Klutz Knitting (book for kids and teens) is great. I used that book and was knitting (crooked stitches) the first day. Maybe look for it in your local library or Amaz*n. The pictures and instructions are VERY clear. Just thought I would mention it!! Or you can look online!! That's even more frugal.
I'm not much of a TV person at night, I am still one that likes to read books. (No Nook, Kindle, etc..)I perfer good old paperbacks!! Besides, I I drop a Paperback, I don't have to worry about it breaking, or the battery running low or it possibly getting stolen even. There is nothing like actually turning the page. :)
Take care all!! My Fiscal Fast is ALMOST DONE!! I will consider it finnished on Friday. I am really out of things I NEED. Will make a list for the store soon.
    Take Care!!

  • Wednesday 23/10 Day Two NSD

EDC well done you have coped very well and resisted the temptaion of spending cash :)I too have resited it after spending on buying what I needed and that's it for the rest of this week until I get a few things on my shopping list. I try to have at least 10 things before I go to the shops unless its really urgent.
I have lots of stuff to get through at the moment as I am determined to save as much as possible this month with christmas and lots of birthdays coming up.
Keep going chums we are all doing so well
    Cheers JackieO xxx
  • Hello all, Well, I've done quite well on the whole, but had to spend today, as I met up with a sort of distant cousin for lunch. We met originally through family history research - met her first about four years ago. Had a nice time together, and a nice but inexpensive lunch.

But, after we parted, I bought myself a new handbag!!! But, this is how I justify it.....due to back problems, I find it best to use a backpack type of bag. The zip broke on my nice leather one that I've had several years and I took it to be repaired. The quote was £40!!!! So I searched the sports shops for a cheap black rucksack, but the only ones I could see had coloured patterns or logos on them, which I don't want. So, I searched around, and found a good compromise - but it cost me £32. Oh well, still cheaper than the zip repair!

I'm off to Germany tomorrow, by train, to stay with my granddaughter, so no more FFing until next week. Then back on track!
Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!
  • Winchelsea, if it is a good quality bag it is probably worth the investment - I still have a travel bag I thought was expensive at the time, cost about £20 thirty five years ago, and it's still going strong! The brand is Faril, I don't know if it even exists now.

Well done Erica, soon be Friday!

SS, good saving on the fuel. I was watching Bake Off too, Frances was my favourite also. I am equally sad, have to admit Strictly brightens up my winter weekends.

Thifty, you are doing really well with half term, not so easy to find free/cheap things to do at this time of year.

Had a good day today, went for my freebie coffee and picked up a job application for the coffee shop! So I've just filled that in and posted it off. Spent my free token to the penny on a vintage style glass, stocking filler for DD. Only thing I bought with money was some meds from the chemist.

Labelled up some marmalade and chutney for the fair at the weekend.

Weather is looking good tomorrow, so can hopefully get ouit for a walk and not be tempted to spend.

Getting low now on milk but otherwise food stores not too bad, we have two hm vegburgers left over, will probably have those tonight with veg fried rice.

    Good luck everyone, back later!
  • evening all, well i had to spend today had no veg, salad or fruit left so got my veg box from green grocer, it normally lasts 2 weeks so not a bad buy, but did manage to stay away from the big shops, wondering if to go to next town tomorrow to have a look in aldi, so if they have any bargins may have to spend but im sure it will save me in the long run xxx

Hello, I hope all of you are well. My refridgerator looks a little empty and sad. After wrapping up the dinner rolls my freezer is back to looking half full. I only have two days left.
I am in need of fresh fruit and veggies, milk and a few other things but, I can wait on all of that (I'm still using my one onion :) ). I have frozen and canned fruit and veggies still, so I will make it untill Friday!! I am glad I did this because I know I will get quite an electric bill as I only have electric heat in my appartment. It also goes for my stove too!!
With it getting colder, I am going to be staying in more and more. If I get too cold it is difficult for me to walk (I have Cerebral Palsy)because my muscles stiffen and hurt even more than they do now.
I think I am going to go through my fridge, freezer and cuboards and start making a list of what I may need to pick up on Friday or Saturday.
Secret Stasher, I have written down the dates of 'our' fiscal fasts, so I will remember. We can do it!!!
I feel like I have saved quite a bit of money these two weeks. :) Yea!!!
    Take Care Friends!!!!
