well i really need to get to grips with the ff, had to spend yesterday as needed bread, also my dd changed her bed and on the underside of her mattress was moldy !!! so now spent the last of savings on a new mattress for her, no the wonder shes had a chest infection this week, we have lived here for nearly 4 years but this last 6 months everything seems to be getting moldy yuk!! , so its more important to save to move i just hope, i can, i know coming on here and reading all these post have helped me, even if not reaching the 7 days has made me really think about where my money goes, so thanks to all x

Have you or next door had work done on the houses?[Being nosy 'cause it seem's strange to only have just started] I know the electrice one's arn't cheap to buy, but it sound's like you need a dehumidifer, but don't worry, you can get the static gel box dehumidifer's in the £ shop's,should last about 3/4 week's before it need's throwing away, or you can get the pottery egg type with silica crystel's in, which you dry out in the microwave so can re-use for year's at a time, they cost about £10.hth
    £71.93/ £180.00
  • hi and thanks for your comments, we have had a few spots of mold in the flat as we are in basement but the last 6 months seems to be spreading everywhere, even on wardrobe doors and some of my shoes that were just in bedroom floor, i think i will invest in some of those microwave ones as we are stuck here till we can save the money to move. on a good note i have had a no spend day .

Thanks for the link to the website saving4life Think I may spend a bit of time reading through that site:)

Today has been a mixed bag with it being half term. Went to the shopping outlet as kids need new boots and I don't have any either. Got them very much reduced but none in DS's size so will have to buy those full price no doubt! We had lunch in subway, one kid doesn't like the drink that comes with the kids meal so I had that and let him have the fizzy which came with mine. They've not had fast food for nearly 3 months so a treat for them. They then spent their pocket money instead of me putting my hand in my purse;)

went to aldi with my 2 week meal plan and small list and spent £57 which I'm pleased with for 4 people. Wonder if I will need to top up? They didn't have any skim milk so I will need to get that but have put aside that money.
tonight's tea is chicken pie and chips made from the flaky pastry which has been in the freezer for a long time:o looks ok, has cooked ok but the date was prob passed. This tea wasn't on the meal plan as there was leftovers from Sunday munch which is unheard of. The chicken carcass has been stripped and is in the slow cooker for stock. I will make soup tomorrow morning and some rice pudding I think, as JackieO said, the weather is vile and we need comfort food!

Have a question- what do people use to cleanse their face? I use cleanser and cotton wool but want to know if I can substitute muslin instead of the cotton wool when I run out?

Keep going everyone! I second JackieO with the library- I oder online and pick up the latest titles in my local library and it costs me 25p to do that- much better than £15 for a hardback!

Chicken pie totally demolished! Leftover tea not so bad then ;)

saving4life- that website is so sad to start with and has made me realise that despite us having not as much as we used to, we still have a lot to be thankful for. Going without certain things, or waiting a longer time to get them makes you appreciate them more, and often question if I really wanted them in the first place. I am in no where near the situation this woman was in, but I appreciate how quickly people's situations could change.
I also get a buzz from "cheating" the shops, keeping my money in my purse , which is what you are all helping me to do! Thanks FF people:)

  • Hi all. Spent 90p on some milk, decided I couldn't go any longer on fruit teas only, and I can't do without my tea. Although I am happy that I have gone this long without spending, but disappointed in a way, but then happy again as I would not have normally only bought milk... I would have probably spent about 20 pound and forgotten the milk :). So I am proud of the improvements I have made.
Ericadawn we will get to Friday, however like yourself I think two weeks running is a bit too much, so I am going to do every other week too. It will definitely be more manageable for me. So I am going to do from Friday 1st November and Friday 15th Novemebr. ( I am on holiday that week and going away for part of it, but that is all paid for and my spending money is already put to one side in a locked tin , however I don't want to get sidetracked with any spontaneous spends). There I have committed already, fingers crossed nothing gets in the way.
Thifty , I use muslin to cleanse my face instead of cotton wool, and have for about 2 years now. I started when I got some liz Earle cleanse and polish as a gift and it comes with cloths, although they can be expensive to buy the cloths, My daughter picked up a good few meters in a shop at the beginning of the year and she cut the up and sewed the edges and gave them to me as a cheaper alternative. I have to say they are great, I always wash in hot water when finished and the put in machine with a lot at a time ( I have about a hundred lol). I never use fabric conditioner in with them as I have found this takes away the natural feel to the cloth.
Hope that helps . ( my daughter also makes dusters out of old sheets now, something she used to help, her gran do). Wished I had been as thrifty as she is at her age, but slowly getting there, never too old is my new motto.

    Night all :)

Hello Friends!! It's 7:00 PM here and I am cooking a late dinner. I am having scrambled eggs with bannana peppers (from my Dad's Garden), onion, (Yes I am still using it up!!)with a little bit of cheese.
I have a prayer shawl ministry meeting tomorrow and am looking forward to it. (The lady who knits with me buys us lunch). It will be good to get out of my appartment.
Secret Stasher, I'll do the FF the same weeks as you!! We will do it together!!
Frugal in '14!!!! God Bless all of You!!! Frugal = 'Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without!!!'-Saying from the Great Depression in the US 1929-39. Love you, Erica Dawn
  • Evening all, NSD again for me, got a bit bored today I have to admit. Still, soup and apple cake made for dinner, will have some cheesy toast with the soup.

Like the idea of using muslin for cleansing - I use cotton wool pads from Lidl and baby lotion, still fairly cheap.

Have not been anywhere for 2 days, so I might have a cashless day out tomorrow - I have a free coffee on my loyalty card and a £5 voucher for M&S home section that has to be used by 28th. Could even take lunch if I want to stay out for a while!

I agree 2 weeks FF is v. hard - too much for me anyway! I might try to join in on alternate weeks through November.

    Hi everyone,
Secretstasher- thanks for the muslin tip- will be cutting up some of my kids muslin squares I think;)
Day 2 of half term was a cheap one again. Made soup from the chicken stock I made from Sundays chicken, boiled up the soup broth mix I soaked overnight (I usually just put lentils in as I never remember to soak!) , chopped up the manky looking veg at the bottom of the fridge, added the bits of chicken I stripped from the carcass then put the lid on the slow cooker. Went down a treat tonight and there is still some left. So my 2 week meal plan can run over an extra 2 days now:j
Took the kids to the library as there was a free doctor Who event, arranged to meet a friend and her kids and spent £1.20 buying us 2 hot chocolates out of the machine. Then went to hers and had free (to me!) coffee and a muffin. Super cheap day for a half term day:beer:
Tomorrow I have to go to the hospital for a check up so will have to pay £3 parking unless it's not raining and I may park near the reservoir over the road and let the kids have a walk. Then after , it will be pack up eaten on my allotment where we will get busy and bring lots of stuff home. There's lots of garlic in the shed and on the allotment, beetroot, squash, carrots, potatoes, kale, and possibly some apples.
Have a nice day tomorrow !!!!!! and keep that purse as shut as you can!
