I'm still not sure this is possible for those of us who are fully subscribed elsewhere for 2011/12 and are not transferring. i.e. Just wanting to open for the 2012/13 tax year. On the website application process you are forced to say you will push at least £1 over into this new ISA. This would take you over the limit.

Maybe I'm being daft i.e. in the application process what value would you say you are opening with? £1 - that would be a fib, £5640 - isnt allowed as the site recognises the total amount possible for 2011/12, or are you saying it doesnt matter - its a nominal amount?

I have taken the risk and said I will put the £1 in (hoping they don't really want it as I will be transfering my barclays ISA to them instead). I intend to put the new money in in the new tax year. If they wont accept the transfer in (as an opener for the account) then I will happily take my money elsewhere.

I was thinking the same-i can`t see any response to this though....

" Sorry if I'm coming across dumb here, but if it matures on 1st May 2014, does it not make this 2 year account a 26, rather than 24, month account? "

Also as it doesn`t mature untill 1st May 2014, its going to be harder to find a competitive Isa to replace it with....

Assuming its this 18 month one:

    http://www.thecheshire.co.uk/ISAs/Direct-Fixed-Rate-ISA/

Then its not great that it says this:
Open your account today with at least £1,000 up to your annual cash ISA allowance (transfers from existing ISAs are not permitted).

I just left the amount at zero. Then selected 'No new money' being paid it. Shame the link to the ISA transfer form doesn't work!!

I've never used Santander before and have recieved confirmation that my new new ISA is open. Not bad as it was only 90 minutes after I applied.

Damn, and I've arranged a Post Office 2 year fix at 3.6% transferring funds from elsewhere. If the Santander deal had been available on 28 Feb when I applied to PO, well I wouldn't have gone. PO have applied for the transfer (had letter today). There is a 14 day cooling off period. I wonder if it can be undone once the transfer is in motion. I see the money is still in the original account so not actually out get.

But still a great rate for 'new money'.

Whats the Cheshire BS like - also any clues whether it will be branch applications only?

Edit - assuming its the same link that KTF has suggested it looks like an online apllication is possible - thank you KTF

    Apply online now

It only takes about 5 minutes to complete the online application form. Once you have completed it you will need to print and post your completed details, together with a cheque to: Freepost RSUC-ZKGH-GRAY, Cheshire Building Society, Swindon, SN38 1NW.
Open your ISA online and manage your savings by post

Applied for the 1yr 3.5% ISA an hour ago. Got an email 10mins ago saying my 4.0 2yr acct has been opened! Grrr. Rang Santander, they said it's not fully active yet and I need to call back in an hour. Will call them back and find out what's wrong and apply again, otherwise I'll close the acct and just go with 3.05 with Barclays

Edit - Well as I was just typing that, I've had another email come through saying my 1yr acct has been opened. Same sortcode/Acct number as the first email. No idea what just happened. I hope my fears of joining Santander aren't true. We shall see though
