I agree. Telling a 30 yo old severely obese man suffering from depression that he just needs to move his a** and lose weight is really ignorant. If only it was that easy...
Saying that, I don't think obesity on its own would justify ESA. Many obese people work, thank god! I don't think it is the issue here, but the other medical problems. OP, I hope you are getting proper medical care for your continence problem as at your age, this should not be accepted. Whether you require surgery or whatever other intervention, don't just accept your situation.
I undestand that you need money to survive, but I would urge you to concentrate most of your energy on trying to sort out your medical problems, your weight, incontinence and depression as at 30, you have your whole life ahead of you. Good luck.0

cross messages. Seeing an endocrinologist is a good start, but do push for expert advice on the other issues.0

you don't get to 32 stones with a dodgy thyroid.
nobody is forcing the food down your mouth, unless your sister is a feeder or something?
If you weren't getting any benefits, where would the money come from to buy your food?
There you go again, the word benefits creeping in ....
I think you have a case of the green eyed monster, perhaps you were refused benefits.
YES an under active thyroid together with lack of mobility CAN get you obese. An under active thyroid can cause many health issues such as pain, depression, weight increase and in rare cases lead to coma. There is obviously another underlying condition as the OP is waiting to see another specialist, so stop being so disrespectful.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0

An under-active thyroid can be treated e.g. medication, possibly levothyroxine.
Also it's possible to get help for obesity - medical, dietetic, nowadays even exercise classes can be prescribed.
The main thing about tackling obesity, however, is that you have to 'get your head in the right place' first. You have to want to do something about it, knowing that this is going to shorten your life by putting extra strain on every body system that there is, and before that, it is going to make life much more difficult for you. Carried to extreme, it can mean you can't do anything at all for yourself, even the most personal tasks become more difficult or even impossible. Look at 'Big Body Squad' on Channel 5 - this is what awaits you if you don't get your head in place now!!
And I am not attacking the bloke. Both I and my OH are struggling with weight and not being able to exercise as we'd like to. I've managed to get down to 10 1/2 stone but am still officially 'obese'. OH is even less mobile, and yes, wiccanlou, he was an extremely fit young guy long ago, rowing bow at a weight of what I weigh now although he was almost 6 ft then.
You might find that exercise in a pool is possible. Even if you don't swim, some form of aqua-aerobics is possible when it wouldn't be possible on dry land. The water both gives support and provides resistance.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

I have a severly underactive thyroid and i weigh 10st 9. Im 5ft9. I was 13st11 in october, so i cut the !!!! out my diet. You can lose weight with thyroid trouble, in fact, its easier to lose weight, the bigger you are. Several small changes = 1 big change. Swapping full fat milk for semi skimmed, olive oil for 1cal etc. I knit, then when i feel like snacking my hands are busy (she says eating a packet of jaffa cakes lol). You only get out what you put in. I suspect if ESA is awarded then the OP will be put in the WRAG group. I know plenty of "large" people out there who work. Good luck OP, you have been given plenty of sound advice about weight loss and appealing ESA xxThe feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!
The pride my children told me they had in me was even better!!!!! # setting positive example to children is OUTSTANDING!!!! !:grouphug::grouphug::smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea0

Its about helping people get their entitlement! Not about benefits policy!
This board is here for help and support for those on or looking to claim benefits, not for judgement. We all know the benefits system is a mess – but that’s for the discussion time."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0

I have noticed that countries with the highest benefits payouts seem to have the highest number of obese people.0

Isn't the USA the fattest country in the world, and do they have the 'highest benefits payouts'?Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

I too suffer from hypothyroidism and am on medication for it. In the months leading up to diagnosis, I banged on nearly 3 stone in weight (very distressing at the time because I'd always been a size 12/14), I'm very slowly losing it, because I have a job in which I am very active, and I'm limiting my intake of crap, calorie laden food.
If you did have an under active thyroid, it would be diagnosed with a simple blood test. I had my blood test at 9.30am one day, and had the doctor on the phone at teatime the same day asking me to go straight down to the surgery. Your doctor would not mess about if he thought that was your problem. Too much risk of organ failure is what he told me.0
