Good luck Skywatcher and to the OP - please give this type of diet a try, as loosing a bit of weight before your surgery will help the surgeons out, lower your risk of complications and make your recovery time easier and shorter.
Thanks - that's brilliant, I'll have a serious look at that.0 -
My tip for losing weight is a simple one. I read somewhere you should not feed bread to wild birds in the winter because there is not enough calories in it to keep them alive. So I fill myself up on bread and water. I am 6 foot tall and 14 stone. If I filled myself up on high calorie foods I would probably be 30 stone as well.“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0

Also may be worth asking your gp to test your CPK levels as if they are over 160 you may be prone to excessive muscle gain, my partner suffers from this and his calf muscles for instance as 18 inches round he does not exercise as he is not allowed to as he would put muscle mass on extremely quickly putting strain on his damaged heart as he has angina and high blood pressure.
Keep a food diary and see what you are eating as you may be surprised by the amount you are eating or what times or type of foods all of these have a bearing on your weight. Hypothyroidism can cause depression, weight gain, lethargy, memory problems, a slowness of mind and even affect your immune system, there are other symptoms too but your gp shouldn't need to send you to an endocrinologist for this as it shows up in routine blood tests. Maybe he feels there is another cause.well today was a complete waste of make up :eek:0 -

Of my life and i hope you was in my situation wen someone too fun out of you then you would know how really it felt so get your facts right.
you don't get to 32 stones with a dodgy thyroid.
nobody is forcing the food down your mouth, unless your sister is a feeder or something?
If you weren't getting any benefits, where would the money come from to buy your food? When your life is a mess, stop and think what you are doing before bringing more kids into it, it's not fair on them.

Stop eating all the time. Stop eating high calorie junk food, its eating that rubbish that gets people like you to 32 stone. How can you let yourself get like that? Shocking! Change your diet and get fit.0

I have never been overweight, but I am lucky that I have a high metabolism so I burn calories off straight away, I am sorry to say I am one of those who believe overweight people (Not those with a medical condition) bring it on themselves, I also believe that the parents of obese kids should be done for child abuse as its their fault the kids are overweight, instead of taking them to the park, or out for a walk or something, they plonk them down in front of the telly with a family size bag of crisps and a 2 litre bottle of high calorie coke.
I would never ever take the pee out of overweight people as it must be awful for them and they suffer enough with the daily struggle of gasping for breath walking a few yards, they suffer the embarrassment of not being able to walk into a high street clothes shop with out getting stared at and knowing there wont be anything in there to fit them, food is an addiction to them, but there is no need for it, an overweight person doesnt have to eat 3 cheese burgers and a huge amount of chips to feel full up, the healthy eating options you can cook for yourself now are lovely, they dont all consist of eating salads and tiny portions of rice and beans, you can make some really nice meals with meat and veg that will fill you up, you can even have healthy puddings.
Just stay away from maccy Ds and KFC and start cooking for yourself, if you cant, then get someone to do it for you, a gastric band is the drastic way out, but its very very risky to operate of someone weighing 30 odd stone, lose some weight first, I think you will find its not as hard as you imagine it will be.not all on benefits are scroungers and don't need to be bullied!0 -
My heart goes out to you OP. It must be a very miserable way to live. At just 30, you should be having a fun life!
I don't know how tall you are, but using an average height of 5'10", a calorie calculator shows that you need to eat 3,463.75 calories a day just to maintain the weight you currently are. Eat any less than that, and you WILL lose weight. Even when you are sat or laid down, move your legs and arms just to get your heart moving a bit. Try walking just a few steps further every day. Try making just a few swaps of snacks for fruit or high fibre cereal with semi skimmed milk.
Maybe if you post the kind of things you normally eat, we can come up with some healthier alternatives? And who is doing your shopping for you? They need to be a bit cruel to be kind I think...DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

oh its so easy to pick on the fat. i wounder if you would find it funny if someone whith copd failed their test. may a person with liver failer would be good for a quick chuckle. morbid obesity at levels as the op is a disability. yes we eat the food however unless you have been there don't assume its a food problem.
op the band is the wrong operation you need the bypass much better at weightloss. my brother in law has had it and he is down a 1/3 of his weight within a couple of months. its cured his type2 diabetes his blood pressure is down and he is getting more active. he was sent for it because he had a heart attack and was very close to dying.
op ask the dietian to try you on the protean sparing fast. ive done it once and lost 10 stone. however it will come back on hence the need for the op, its easier than normal dieting but its nort a cure,
op good luck inore the smart !!!!!! on here they don't know what they are talking about.0 -
Got to be a troll cos the CAB would be advising not MSE. Xenical haven't been available for weeks due to manufacturing problem. HRM & HRC DLA is plenty disposable income if less food is eaten.
