op the band is the wrong operation you need the bypass much better at weightloss. my brother in law has had it and he is down a 1/3 of his weight within a couple of months. its cured his type2 diabetes his blood pressure is down and he is getting more active. he was sent for it because he had a heart attack and was very close to dying.
.
I agree my friend has a gastric band. Gastric band is 50% band and 50% willpower. They are easy to cheat. I am so angry at my friend cause she was lucky enough to get hers free on a clinical trial yet she cheats it all the time eating corn snack type crisps the dissolve to nothing and melting chocolate bars in the microwave.
She has lost about 5 stone in 5 Years so it's working but very very slowly she still has 8 stone to go :-(0 -

Actually I know someone who was 30+stone and it was a bypass not a band that they needed. They always worked, never claimed benefits, had the bypass on the NHS, lost the weight and saved up to pay for the skin surgery privately as the NHS waiting list was very long. The most potent weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. Whatever the reason the OP has become so obese DOES NOT excuse the downright rudeness & nastiness displayed by several posters here!! Downright shocking & disgusting!!“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

the problem with the nhs is they have a very limited number of ops. in my area its 1 a year so there is a 4 year wait. i can't wait 4 years so i will be going private some time this year. roughly 10-11k but it will be worth it. however the death rate is 1 in 200 so you really need to know what your getting involved with. even with the op you still need to diet plus there is the need for extra vits plus a b12 jab twice a year and blood tests.0

Yes paulethruth, I think they weighed up the options (no pun intended) and thought that the risks of him dying without the op were also pretty high. It worked out well for him in the end though. He also had support from friends and family. I wish you luck because it has totally changed his life.
I do empathise, it is not simply about overeating. Smokers have been attacked and blamed for their own health problems and now it's the turn of the obese.
However I do believe the OP is a troll hence my earlier replies. The most potent weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. Steve Biko0 -
I wish a gastric band/bypass would work on my bloke but his weight has nothing to do with his food intake as his calorific intake is about right for a grown man according to the dietician and GP his weight issue is literally down to overproduction on of CPK, medication, slow metabolism and not being allowed to exercise for medical reasons. He weighs in at 21st and is 10 st overweight but I bet there will be some out there who just prejudiced against anyone who doesn't fit their view of normal. My bloke misses the days where he was part of the local athletics team and could take part in the relay, do shot put, hammer, discus and javelin, but that pales into insignificance when the bigoted idiots who know nothing about him, his history or illnesses just assume he is fat because its his fault.well today was a complete waste of make up :eek:0
