Ive just read then re read this policy
The thing that worries me is all the way through it says you can be towed home or to the local garage whcih ever is closer
With my best mate being a mechanic all I ever want is towing home not to a local garage im sure it says along the lines of whereevers the closer

    AutoAid Full Policy

    From page 3; -

Recovery of the vehicle and its passengers

We will refund the reasonable cost of taking the vehicle,
you and up to 5 passengers from the place where the
vehicle has broken-down to any one place you choose.

    Alternative travel

If the vehicle is not repaired at the roadside or is not
taken to a place of your choice, we will refund the cost
of alternative travel (by road or by rail) so that you and up to 5 passengers can:
    finish your journey; or
    return home.

We will also refund the cost of one person travelling by
road or by rail to collect the vehicle from where it is
being repaired, after the repairs have been finished.

  • I've just signed up for AutoAid. A couple of years ago I would not entertain this sort of policy as I never had free funds to pay up front but i'm a bit wiser with cards and money so i'm ready for what life has to throw at me.

I have been with RAC for years and I know about cars (rebuilt mine from scratch) so when I rung up saying my car can not be moved 1" and needs to go onto a low loader I really do not want to hear "we'll send our patrol just to see", then wait an hour for the patrol to come out saying "yep your initial report as correct, i'll arrange for a low loader now".

We had the exact same problem with the AA and they said "fine we'll send you a recovery truck but be warned they do not carry spares and they will just lift and go" - Thank you for that, just what I wanted.

I'm hoping that I never ever have the same problem again but I think i will have more say with autoaid than with big firms.

Fingers crossed and £60 saved for a rainy day!!

    Cheers MSE
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:
  • I joined AutoAid after seeing it on this site last year ago and was unfortunately involved in an accident about 6 months later which meant my car could not be driven. The breakdown truck arrived within 30 minutes of my first call and brought me the 160 miles home. The guy did not seem to know how the Autoaid system worked and although I said that I was supposed to pay then and claim it back, I was never billed for it...

I started using AutoAid this year. I was a bit leary at first, but after using them twice I am very impressed with what they offer.

For starters it is nice to be able to call them if you need assistance, or if you know someone closer you can call anyone.

Both claims where paid quickly and efficiently.

    wonder if anyone could advise

id like myself and my girlfriend to be covered...what proof do they need that shes a spouse or will she need her own policy?
  • You would have to have the same surname.
As you have to pay upfront, the bill will be in the name of the person broken down. I would hate to have a £500 bill refused because of a £36 saving.
    Better to have single policies

    okay worth an ask anyway

still a good deal i guess
  • Agree with everyone - autoaid are really good.

Only had one breakdown in the last ten years so took the policy out as a precaution. Running a french car is always a worry - and guess what it totally lost drive a couple of weeks ago.

Autoaid arranged the tow and confirmed the time by text message. Only issue is that the local tow company took 1.5 hrs to arrive. Autoaid chashed them when we asked.

Two stage tow agreed (to home then dealer next working day), and the cheque came very quickly.

Needed to chase one of the tow companies for their invoice (credit card statement not accepted for reimbursement) but not much hazzle for the level of premium paid.

    Great scheme.
  • Hi - I've been with autoaid fo a few years and not needed to call them out - so I've saved loads on what i used to pay the AA! Unfortunately, I now have a vito van and they won't cover it - anyone any alternatives - don't want to go back to old money wasting way!!!
  • Joined Auto Aid for first time, had two break downs in one week at almost the same spot. No questions were asked and they were very quick. Got my money back quickly too. Most people will do what they can to help themselves if they have to pay on the spot, therefore you dont have to pay for people who call out rescue for a flat tyre.
