The reason AutoAid limit cover for home breakdowns is that £60 is quite enough for a call out to start a car which won't start

I haven't checked so I'm just going on gut feeling, but this concerns me a little.
For example if you don't live in a built up area and call someone out at night then I would not be surpised at garages wanting more than this, but again that's a gut feeling and not based on any research.

Just a slight correction, the limit is £65. for home start.

Just wanted to add my thoughts on AutoAid in case anyone has any doubts about them. I have had to call them twice in the last two years (after years of over priced AA, RAC etc membership with on call outs!). They were great, both problems sorted out within 40 minutes (with different call out garages) and the claims repaid within five days. Excellent service. And I live in darkest rural Wiltshire so it's not just the citys that they cover.

I paid in my first cheque from AutoAid into my A&L current account via my local Post Office earlier today.

Excellent response to my call, prompt and efficient response from the agent (Hinton Rescue, the same firm used by my previous breakdown firm, Britannia Rescue).

Receipt sent promptly, claim sent and cheque received promptly.

    But it gets better.

For a start, I paid on my Capital One card, so I get 1% cashback. The transaction is on my last statement, but the Direct Debit for this hasn't come out yet, so the money is still in my A&L current account, earning 6+%. When the cheque is debitted to the account, I will be earning 6+% on that as well.

    Now, how MSE is that!

Their office will only be open "office hours" but you are free to choose whoever you like for assistance or call the 24 hour helpline,( not the office), ; -

    HOW TO OBTAIN ASSISTANCE
If you require assistance you can make your own arrangements or you can call our 24-hour Rescue Control Centre on
01277 720700, quoting your Document number and name.

  • I have been with AutoAid for about a year. My car wouldn't start so I borrowed my dads car while he was on holiday. The next day that car also would not start!!!....
So I had 2 cars sitting on my drive, BOTH unable to start (a bad morning or what...)

I called Auto Aid explianed the situation. They stated I would pay a FULL callout charge for the first car and HALF a call out for the second car.

20 mins later the local garage truck turns up, and manages to get both cars running.

I paid £45 for the first car and £22.50 for the second car. All in one transaction for £67.50 on my Credit Card.:o

A few days later my 2 invoices turn-up (one for each car) and 1 recipt (for the full amount).

I filled in 1 form with details of both cars, and about 2 weeks later I recieved 2 cheques totaling the full amount.:T

My annual contract has just expired, and I will be renewing this today. :) (I waited to recieve the cheques before I renewed.;))

    I would recommend them highly.:money:

But, and this is a big but, I would caution anyone against using a "pay and claim" type recovery operator unless they can guarantee always having a credit card on them with sufficient credit available to pay a bill of a few hundred pounds.

Sorry if I sound thick here, and taking things quite literally: I don't use a credit card, I do have a debit card which I use to withdraw cash / make payments in shops etc etc (it is Barclays Debit card with the Visa logo).

Would this be sufficient to make payments with? I would imagine it is, but just concerned when the OP stated credit cards.

The feedback on this company sounds very good indeed. I was planning on going for the other route of cover, but now I think I will go with Autoaid!

    Thanks in advance everyone!

  • hello

that was a fast reply - thanks very much. (I pretty much assumed it would be ok, but just wanted some confirmation)

    Thanks!

  • Thanks for all the info. :money:

Just signed up for Auto Aid. I had assumed that my bank's 'free' recovery would cover my wife and I for our cars and camper van (we have a joint account). However, I found out that just my car was covered (and as it happens the clutch packed in 2 weeks ago).

So my wife has been driving around without breakdown cover and I've been using my VW camper without cover. Eeek!

I checked with AutoAid and my van ( a VW T25 camper) is fine on their policy. Thanks to all:T
