  • I was with the AA under warranty with my car and when that run out I joined AutoAid and have been a member for two years. I have had to use them once and whilst I was pleased with the service I received I found the garage I dealt was hopeless. I paid by credit card however the chap who came to rescue me couldn't give me a receipt there and then and told me the garage would post one to me in a couple of days. It didn't arrive so I rung the garage who first said they knew nothing about the breakdown recovery and after a few frustrating minutes on the phone they found me on their system and said a receipt would be sent that day. It didn't arrive and this situation went on for weeks - me ringing, them saying it was in the post. I did eventually receive the receipt but as you have to make a claim within 28 days within the AutoAid scheme I was too late and AutoAid told me that my claim was rejected because it was not made within the time limit. I complained to AutoAid who said they could do nothing about it and I should take my argument up with the garage. The garage said it wasn't responsible for delays in the post. So my advice is to get a receipt for your recovery at the time, even if it is a hand written job on the back of a envelope. I lost out to the tune of £48.00

  • Just received my renewal from AA; £222!! admittedly, I have had cause to call them out 5 or 6 times in the last 24 months but surely they can't justify that!! Anyway, thanks to this forum, autoaid will have a new customer shortly! By the way, I also have a reliable car now!!

ok, so just received my £96 renewal from the AA - a figure that made me laugh out loud, and brought me to MSE! In previous years I have cancelled my policy and taken out a new one through the website (25% discount and £20 quidco!)

I've now read through all 6 pages of this thread, and just want to check that AutoAid will try to fix your car at the roadside. I don't just want a recovery service. What I understand from their website and this thread is that it it just the same cover as the AA, but you pay upfront. Am I right?

    Hi all

Just had a claim paid by Autoaid within one week of posting the form. No probs.

I have been reading through this thread and some folks seem to be missing the point that Autoaid is an insurance product. They don't fix cars or tow them anywhere; they settle valid claims on the policy. As a service they will contact a local garage for you which is great if you don't have the Yellow Pages to hand when you break down miles from home in the middle of the night. If you don't like the man in the van that is nothing to do with Autoaid.
If from your description of the faults it sounds like your vehicle can be fixed on the roadside Autoaid will pass this info onto the garage they contact on your behalf.
You are buying insurane services not repair or relay. Autoaids emergency contact number is just so you don't have the hassle of trying to find local bod yourself.

Remember the driver and spouse are both covered in any car. £38 a year. Brilliant!

what I was asking was do the garages try to fix the car, at the side of the road like the AA would?
My AA policy is due to finish shortly.....
  • Hi - a quick query with AutoAid. I am so tempted to go with this as my breakdown renewal is almost due (currently with Tesco's greenflag).

Do I need to carry a credit card with me at all times?

Normally when going to work I've only got my keys and my mobile in my pocket. Not having anywhere safe to keep stuff at work means I only carry wllet/purse/handbag when I'm going on to somewhere else straight after.

Well, I would guess that it depends on what payment method is accepted by THE ACTUAL REPAIR/RECOVERY SERVICE that attends to you. They're undoubtedly going to want you to settle up with them there and then, I would've thought. AutoAid is a Pay & Reclaim service, after all. HTH.
Expect the worst & hope for the best...
