wonder if anyone knows of a breakdown service that covers punctures, ie would change your wheel for you.

I think that they would all do this.
Most people would struggle to do this or wouldn't want to do it in freezing termperatures, armani suit or skirt and 10 denier tights etc.

Not sure about RAC, maybe they would do a change but my only experience was with a puncture itself.

I was more than capable of putting on the space saver but didn't fancy the 130 mile journey to get home on a space saver so called them to see if they could do anything, the person I spoke to said they could give me another wheel, so I passed them the details they asked for with regards to wheel/tyre size.

The RAC guy turned up and he said the person I had spoke to obviously didn't have a clue.

This wouldn't have been an issue if it happened on your average day but it was about 5pm on 2nd of January

How do they operate if you have an accident?

I say this since, last weekend I was on holiday about 100 miles from home. I was going down a country lane and hit a discarded object in the road which ripped a big hole in my sump. I lost all my oil on the spot. I called my breakdown company rescuemycar.com and said what had happened. They said that I had had an accident so would only send someone out for £90 to have a look then it would cost £250 to tow me home. I didn't even think it would be classed as an accident really, I was too shocked!

In the end I managed to use my girlfriends RAC cover who got us home for £200!! Still too much but better than the original quote.

So would autoaid recover you in the event of an accident or something similar to the above?

    From the policy doc:

"Breakdown means a mechanical or electrical failure, accident, theft or vandalism, which renders the vehicle immobile – Applicable to all sections."

    That answers that then!!

Think I know who my new recovery service will be! Thanks!!

I've read through this thread with great interest, even though it does not suit my purpose, as I need European cover as well. AutoAid do sound good.

I thought I would tell you my outcome, though strictly speaking it's possibly out of place on here. Annual cover including Homestart and European cover with MoreThan for £56.29. It seems too good to be true but I can see no obvious problems.
  • Hi
In summary, does Autoaid get thumbs up or down?

I've not had to use them, but the vast majority of people that have are very posistive and it certainly seems very good value for money.

We have 3 vehicles covered for £34 (now up to £36 I think) so I'm very happy although not broken down since I took out the cover.

We have been with them a couple of years, the times we have used them they have been excellent.
