  • <P>My only advice with Autoaid would be to make sure that when they send a garage out that they are going to try to fix your car BEFORE recovering it. I have used Autoaid twice and on both occasions recovery trucks were being sent who had no intention of fixing the car at roadside but had been instructed to merely recover the car. So although the £32 for the years service was cheaper, in my case it might have been better for me to go with the AA or the RAC because both may have been able to fix the car at roadside and I would then not have incurred the garage costs as well

    Just another quick positive story - car wouldn't start one morning after staying at parents. Called AutoAid and they sent a local recovery firm out (arrived within the hour). Chap was able to fix it there and then on the spot. Paid him the £50 call-out charge by credit card and submitted a claim form (downloaded from their website) the next day enclosing a copy of the receipt - cheque arrived just over a week later.

  • Had really good autoaid experience, broke down on outskirts of london on a sunday morning (broken rocker shaft). Phoned them at 1015, I was back in the house in Reading by 1330 which included stint round M25/M4 at max speed of 54 miles per hour in truck!! Car is automatic so had to go on lowloader, they tried to recover it at roadside but couldn't so had to be taken back to my local garage and the guy droppped me off at home afterwards. Had my cheque for costs back in a week. Definately need credit card as stated above. Couldn't fault autoaid for information, service and sense of humour at the time!!
  • Everyone seems to be positive about AutoAid, however, my recent experience has not been so good.

    It's now a over month since I paid AutoAid for breakdown cover, and yet I've received no paperwork or written confirmation of my policy. Every time I phone to ask where the material is, they tell me that the policy is in order, the documents were sent out, and they'll send another set out immediately.

    Yet nothing arrives. I've checked the address they have for me, it's fine. Post from other senders arrives without problem. It's just nothing arrives from AutoAid, and I'm beginning to think that the problem isn't with the postal system, but with AutoAid itself.

    AutoAid's customer-service representatives don't seem to have anything much to propose, other than "sending" yet another set of paperwork.

    I've got the breakdown number, so hopefully that will all work if I have a breakdown, but I certainly don't have any physical evidence that I'm insured at present.

    realistically how much does the £65 limit cover you for a 'home' call-out?

    i would have thought the call-out alone would be somewhere near or exceeding that??

    my car wont start so i'm considering calling them out but want some idea what i will get for my £65 limit. i don't want to go over this and have to pay so any idea if i can ask for just £65 worth of help (whatever that maybe??

    anyone used them for a 'home' start?

    I have not had to use them at all yet, but I think the question you are posing is for the garage that you are going to contact and not Autoaid as I do not think they would know, only the garage can answer that question,so maybe you should just ask them.

    Hi carpy,

    I suggest you call your local garage and find out what a call-out would be likely to cost.
    If you aren't happy with the coverage and/or have an unrealiable or poorly maintaned car then get a different policy (will probably cost a lot more).

    A lot of us are very happy with the coverage provided for the price but if you are not then now is the time to research it and get a different policy if necessary.

    Clearly if the cost of a different policy is more than the cost of breaking down then it might be worth chancing it but at the end of the day it's your deicision to get the cover that's most suitable for you.
  • For info - my recent straight call-out with no parts cost £49.35. Agree with other posters though, you can source your own garage and sort out the price beforehand with them rather than just go with whoever AutoAid send out if you wish.
