I felt I had to post to say that my experience with AutoAid has been fantastic.

Quote from my last letter to them :-
"after years of trouble free motoring this is the second time I have been stranded this year. I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for the efficient way that you handle your claims. Highly recommended".

Payment has always been very quick an the recovery firms attended in good time.
At 2.30am in Harrogate they got to me in under 30 mins. Not only that, but were efficient AND good humoured !!

    More than strongly recommended, Essential.

    Thanks Guys.
  • i took martin's advice and purchased two policies. one for me and one for my son. This is the second year I have been with them (no claims to date) and I have only just read the small print (slapped wrist). Apparently they don't cover diesel and anything over 2.5 litre. as my son drives a 3.9litre diesel it would appear he won't be covered in a breakdown. My fault not autoaid but I just wanted everyone else to check their policy.

I drive a 2ltr diesel. I broke down and was recovered to my home then onwards to a garage which was two charges (home to garage £79) I was paid out in full.

I have to say I have not read all the small print, so you are right, it pays to read it and I will, (mental note, remind myself).

They do seem to take a "sensible" view on things but I do understand your concerns.

What is nice to see is that in a world of rules and get-out clauses they appear to me to be, on the face of it, a company that, altough I am sure would not tolerate abuse, seem to have the flexability to see common sence.

They cover the driver not the car (and caravan), so this is another plus for me. I find in general people are more likely to take the trouble to write when they are agreaved. It is good to see so many suportive postings. Must say something....see postings, mrs baggins, mariauk, don9999,

I guess horses for courses. You buy the product to fit the need.

Good point though. Check it out.

    Thanks.

 Copy of letter sent to Auto Aid:

    1. On 6 Jul 07 I submitted a claim for the recovery of my car *****YOH when it broke down. I phoned at the end of July and was told that the cheque had been posted to me; it never turned up. I was told to submit a letter cancelling the first cheque and requesting another.

    2. When I phoned to see if my letter dated 07 Aug 07 had arrived I was told that there was no trace of it. I was told to submit an e-mail, which I did on 21 Aug 07 again requesting that you issue a second cheque and also requested that you send the second cheque via Recorded Delivery so it would not go missing in the post. I also sent a contact form to you requesting that you reissue the cheque. I received a message on my phone to say that a cheque would be sent.

    3. I phoned last week to be told that a second cheque had been issued on 29 Aug 07, that also has not turned up. I find it very strange now that 2 cheques and one letter to/from your company have ‘disappeared’. If I were to be cynical it would be easy for me to assume that after the first couple of attempts you would think that I would give up. I can understand 1 item not turning up but 3 is not a coincidence, someone is not doing their job.

    4. I would be grateful if you would now cancel the second cheque as it appears that that also has disappeared in the mail and re-issue one for the same amount. You can appreciate that this is all very tiresome for me to have to keep chasing. My correct address is shown above, I have previously checked to make sure that you hold it correctly. I am sending this letter Recorded Delivery so that I know you have received it. I am copying this letter to the Chief Executive of Equity Red Star Motor Policies at Lloyd’s as I am very unhappy with the level of service I have received and have already placed an item on a forum on the Martin Lewis Money Saver website detailing my experiences to date.

I wait and see if the 3rd cheque turns up
Gristle - any chance of an update on this? It's disappointing when people come on and criticise but don't follow up, so I hope you won't be falling into that trap!

I would say, frankly, that it's just as likely that there's a problem with your post as there being a problem with AutoAid who have paid my claims almost instantaneously. But we shall wait and see what you report back.

Who says they dont cover diesel? i take it you phoned them, and as long as your sons 3.9litre is not a motorhome then its covered

Please tell me where this small print is, its must be so small i cant find it or i need glasses

What ? Would you like to point out the relevant small print re not covering diesel. I certainly cant find it !

No mention of petrol or diesel.

  • If you're not ready to cancel the 'big name' recovery for Autoaid, it can still give you a discount. I called the AA to cancel my membership for Autoaid, and the AA offered to reduce my monthly Direct Debit

    :j
  • when I called the AA to cancel they suddenly offered to reduce my payment. Funny that! They never offered to reduce it before. I still cancelled though out of principal. Plus autoaid was cheaper for the same thing (almost) and I am happy

I would agree that someone is not doing their job, but from my knowledge of both AutoAid and the Royal Mail then I can definitely say that my money would be on Royal Mail without a shadow of a doubt.

Why not use recorded delivery where the mail can be checked both ways?
or email (and avoid it altogether).

I have no connection to either organisation but have used both and I'm very impressed with AutoAid and very unimpressed with Royal Mail.
