How did you get away with that?
From their General Conditions on page 6 :- http://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/doc/autoaidpolicy_abr0407cvr.pdf
7.You must carry a roadworthy spare tyre with your
vehicle at all times.
Can I ask why your car cannot carry a spare wheel?
Quite a lot of new cars don't carry a spare nowadays. My wife's car only comes with some cans of compressed foam to blow the tyre up if she gets a puncture"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

I think AutoAid's service is very good and excellent value for money, but it looks to me that they need to do a bit of work on their Ts&Cs.0
-
Agree about having another look at their own T&Cs, but just because a car is supplied without a spare wheel, does not mean one cannot carry one, and if autoaid wish to apply their T&CS to the letter then they could.
lisyloo, you are correct that it is not a legal requirement to carry a spare, however if you do carry one it does not have to be in a serviceable condition,(though carrying one that is not is just stupid IMO), that only applies once you fit it to one of the wheels, it is not even on the check list for the MOT even if stored on the vehicle.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

Yes of course they can, but they might go down in popularity if they start doing that.
A lot of companies put things like this in Ts&Cs to cover themselves by inevitable abuse but in most cases they operate somewhat differently in the real world.
It would appear that generally they are held in high esteem, so I can't imagine them being the sort that would insist on out-of-date Ts&Cs and if they did........well we know what will happen in MSE land don't we....It would be reported here and every one would know about it and they would loose customers.
Cars have become more reliable and technology improved and puntures are not as commonplace as they used to be. It therefore makes sense that car manufacture has kept up with this trend especially as there are now a number of very small cars around (like smart cars) which simply would find it difficult to find the physical space.lisyloo, you are correct that it is not a legal requirement to carry a spare, however if you do carry one it does not have to be in a serviceable condition,(though carrying one that is not is just stupid IMO), that only applies once you fit it to one of the wheels, it is not even on the check list for the MOT even if stored on the vehicle.
oops, sorry I' a bit out of date on that. Thanks for the correction :-)0 -

Small sports car, perchance? The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
Had to use AutoAid for the first time last week, fuel pipe burst soaking engine in fuel, call the helpline and they called a local garage that arrived in 13 minutes and took me the wife and daughter home.
Paid on the spot by card, sent invoice to AutoAid tuesday, cheque arrived this morning!
Excellent service.0 -
I've used the AA since 1974. I had cause, unfortunately, to call them out probably once every two years or so. Their service has, without exception, been excellent.
I compared Autoaid benefits with those offered by AA Homestart. The latter is twice as expensive, it seems to me, but offers much more in terms of the maximum repair costs allowed.
So pro tem I'm sticking with the AA. However, I'm also suggesting that they might prevent me moving elsewhere by dropping their price (as they did, once, when I was going to move to Green Flag). Not holding my breath though!

Faultless - had to claim twice in quick succession .... first time diagnosed as battery failure - car was started and was on my way. New battery, failed again next week - turned out to be solenoid problem not battery issue. So two claims for basically same fault inside a month - paid without quibble. Five Star!0
