I will seriously consider AutoAid when my current AA membership is up for renewal .I've paid a fortune over the years for cover which includes 'at home' but hardly ever used them (twice or so in over 10 years-ouch!- that's a lot of money spent for little return, but such is the risk we take for peace of mind)If I can get similar cover for a lot less then I'm up for it.
My only worry is that the service might vary in different parts of the country and the excellent reviews may be for one geographical area that is well served.

With all due respect here, I'm not sure you have got the concept. Autoaid don't have their own recovery vehicles but rely on recovery operators local to where you need assistance. In fact I think I'm correct in saying if you break down and you know of a local reliable recovery service then there is nothing stopping you from calling them out. As I'm not 100% sure on this please confirm with autoaid.

So basically the service is as good as the local recovery firm that comes out to assist you where ever you may be in the UK. Hope that helps.

  • Used Autoaid once, saturday afternoon in mid wales, after a cylinder head gasket failed. We phoned the autoaid number and they took our mobile number and we were shortly afterwards contacted by the rescue garage. Their vehicle came after about 1 hour 15 minutes (they had warned us there would be a bit of a wait).
Took us home, about 90 miles. Didn't even want payment, just a signature.

We joined Auto Aid just after we appeared on Make Me Rich, have call rescue twice and both times cheque has been here with-in two days, plus the claim form only took 5 mins to fill in (Quicker than doing this post) so I shall be sticking with them.

Haven't broken down (All this money wasted to the RAC) in 10 years, but twice this year so far, first time with a snapped Cam belt and 16 bent valves last time with slipped timing and a valve through a piston crown. looks like a new engine this time.... hmmmmmm.

Both times I can't fault them.

All the claim form asks is your name address where you broke down how many people in car and how far and how much it cost. And if any over night stops.

Anyone that states they can't be bothered to fill out a claim form that is so easy to fill in doesn't belong on this website.

Good post gatra, keeping all us members up to date on the level of service from Autoaid.

Sorry to hear about your motor...... OUCH!

Cam belt....if anything should be looked after on a car it's this and keeping the oil clean. Regular inspection and changing at the recommended intervals is absolutely essential to avoid loss or catastrophic damage to the engine. The job should also be done by a COMPETENT mechanic.

Yes, I just had them confirm that, however their document does not read like it:-
The vehicle – a saloon car, hatchback, estate car,
car derived van, motorcycle or motorised caravan under
2.5 tons gross vehicle weight and with an engine
capacity of no more than 2500 cc

It reads to me that all the vehicles mentioned have a limit of 2500 cc.

I think they need better punctuation and clarity.
Looks like AutoAid's been monitoring posts on MSE. Wording now reads:

"Vehicles covered are any saloon car, hatchback, estate car, car derived van or motorcycle. Motorised caravans will only be covered if they do not exceed 2.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight or 2500cc."

Yes well, when I spoke to them I did say that the wording could be made clearer as it could be costing them potential customers the way it read.

Remember to cancel before the renewal date else they'll charge £14 if you cancel upto 14 days after the renewal date.
  • I got knocked off the road by a ratbag driver who did not look in his mirror as I passing him. I ended up in a field after demolishing a fence and a couple of small trees, I was lucky not have been injured but the car was an eventual write off. The ratbag driver did not stop. I called Auto Aid. A breakdown truck arrived after about 30 minutes, He towed me out of the muddy field, We checked my car and we decided that it was driveable so I 'dropped' him a tenner and that was the last I heard of it from Auto Aid. Great value and great service.
