Roadside Recovery: AutoAid Feedback

Looks like AutoAid's been monitoring posts on MSE. Wording now reads:
"Vehicles covered are any saloon car, hatchback, estate car, car derived van or motorcycle. Motorised caravans will only be covered if they do not exceed 2.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight or 2500cc."
If so, I reckon that's another plus point for them! I will definately be giving them a try, when the "ex-wife-to-be" and my joint Britannia Rescue expires at the end of the year. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

There are enough points made in the other thread you mention , http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=382130, for anyone that hasn't seen it that clarify why auto aid isn't for some of us.
As a perfect example I do not want to have to pay up front and claim back - auto aid require you to do this, I don't want to - so why do I need to try auto aid to see if it's for me ?
Clearly Auto Aid is for some and not others - can we not live and let live and those that like Auto Aid continue using them and those of us for whom they hold no appeal will carry on not using them - we're all different and I'm darned glad for that.0 -
Have just received renewal for Auto Aid. Asked for my partner to be included, as he has now retired and would be using the motor too, was told only married couples! Can't see any reason why couples not married can't share as long as their names are on the Auto Aid documents - as with motor insurance's. Anyone know why partners aren't accepted!0

maybe to stop friends sharing a policy, did you ask them why?0

Anyone know why partners aren't accepted!
If you want to be officially recognised as a couple by society then why don't you get married?
It the standard way of recognising this partnership.
If for some reason you don't want to do it, then you should expect to not be able to get all of the benefits of being recognised officially as a couple.0 -
Thanks to the MSE recommendation I joined Autoaid this year.
A few weeks ago I punctured a tyre. I had two children under two in the car and my car cannot carry a spare tyre....disaster. I phoned Autoaid and they sent a recovery driver to me who arrived within 40 mins. Unable to repair the tyre, he phoned to check that the garage could get me a tyre and then took the car and us (via son's nursery!) to the garage. New tyre was fitted and I claimed for the recovery (obviously tyre plus labour was not included). I received a cheque for £48 within a week, so that has covered the annual cost of Autoaid (plus a little more)
Great service, would recommend to anyone.:T0 -
Just asked the girlfriend if she would marry me so we could get joint breakdown cover, she slapped me round the face!0

Hi,
I joined Autoaid as a result of this site and I have had to call the policy into use twice.
Initially last year, to recover my wifes car to a local garage, which they re-imbursed the recovery cost within a week.
More recently, this month whilst on holiday in the Lakes, I damaged the suspension and required recovery. I was somewhat dubious and sceptical this time around as the recovery was some distance and amounted to around £450. Autoaid didn't automaticlly 'pay-out' but wrote to ask for details of the circumstances and my insurance "as is routine for a large claim". I forwarded the details (post, they 'don't do e-mail') and was preparing for a fight and a bad review on here when today, the cheque for the full amount arrived
Great service, great value and gives you the freedom of choice and more money in the bank if you don't use
Note: If you have to transport dogs with you, most recovery operators will keep the dogs in your car, on the trailer, on their own, with you up front in the cab. We hired a car, at our own cost, to transport the dogs back home with us!0 -
my car cannot carry a spare tyre....
How did you get away with that?
From their General Conditions on page 6 :- http://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/doc/autoaidpolicy_abr0407cvr.pdf
7.You must carry a roadworthy spare tyre with your
vehicle at all times.
Can I ask why your car cannot carry a spare wheel?
Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Can I ask why your car cannot carry a spare wheel?
Just thought I'd add that some cars these days do not provide or have room for a spare wheel.
An example is a "smart car" that I believe comes from the manufacturers with a puncture repair kit.
I doubt very much that AutoAid would impose this kind of condition on cars that are not manufacturered with a spare wheel. It's intended to used in the case where someone has removed or not maintained their spare to an adequate condition.
My understanding is that it isn't a legal requirement to carry a spare, only that if you do it must be in a serviceable condition.
