  • had an accident on motorway last week - car totaled. Phoned Autoaid for recovery and motorway cop said to use theirs as got to get to you within 30 mins. when I said I'd rung autoaid he said they use the same breakdown services the police use and were very efficient.
guys who picked me up and towed me off motorway said autoaid were good and that with others you sometimes weren't covered (whatever that meant) and to check the small print - green flag being the worst. (what for i've no idea but I was in shock!!)

This Autoaid sounds like a far better service on paper than the RAC.

Are there any important terms to be aware of, other than they want you to have your CC to hand.

How far would they be prepared to take you, say for example your car broke down and there were plenty garages nearby but you wanted to use a garage you trusted etc, would they take you that extra mile/s or so?

Also would they cover you if you were in a Transit van.

    Thanks

Just ti let you know I had the unfortunate chance to use my policy last night when I got crashed into. The car would not drive. As it is only a breakdown recovery, they could not take it to the garage as it would not cover storage costs so had to bring it to the house until the insurance arrange to move it to the repairers (this was outside the insurers claim hours). I had no money on me at all and they are billing me for the pick up,. That was no questions asked.....

Must say that the first time that I used it, I never received a bill!!

Autoaid H O number where you can make enquiries, 01277 235500, they are open until 1-30 p.m. today, failing that from 8 a.m. on Monday.

They do cover Transits, but it depends on the size and model, if you call them on the above number with the info, they will tell you over the phone.

Used them for the first time last night for Home Start. They arranged a local firm to come out, but they could not star my car. The mechanic wasn't sure if the problem was the heater plugs, a relay or a fuel cut off valve. I had to pay the guy £49.35 and the car is still out side my house and still not starting.

I rang AutoAid back today and told them I have arranged someone to recover my car for local repair. The guy on the phone said I could still make a claim but they needed to recover the car for me. I question this and after I told him that my recovery was costing me £35 pounds his voice changed and he said that would be certainly acceptable as it was cheaper than theirs.

I will let you all know how I get on with the 2 claims as the total together will be £84.35.

EDIT: the guy just arrived to pick up my car and it only cost me £30,
so Total will now be £79.35 :j

Not so good on the accident front. When you say you had to bring it to the house, how far would said house be from accident spot.

What would have happened if you had crashed whilst 400 miles from home for example

This is from the Key Facts sheet:

Any caravan or small trailer will be entitled to the same service as the vehicle as long as it’s attached to the vehicle.
MAIN TERMS AND CONDITIONS (INCLUDING SIGNIFICANT/UNUSUAL EXCLUSIONS) (Referenced by policy sections)
Breakdown means a mechanical or electrical failure, accident, theft or vandalism, which renders the vehicle immobile

I think you are covered, because "breakdown" includes "accident"?

    Tinov.

I've gone for the service, wonder if anyone knows of a breakdown service that covers punctures, ie would change your wheel for you.

Looking to get my elderly father covered as he would struggle with a wheel change.

I don't think autoaid cover this, anyone any ideas?

Autoaid do cover this,(phone them to confirm; 01277 235500, ), as well as running out of petrol, losing keys, locking keys in vehicle etc, same as the big boys actually.
