I'd say I'm reasonably lucky but I have only won one thing so far in 2012 ( a mascara) so maybe not so lucky after all!
I keep thinking I'll start a blog about the "Dark Side of Comping" - you know, that bitter, twisted, sour feeling you get when you see someone has won a big pile of cash and a couple of holidays in the last week! :rotfl:
You can enter the same 100 comps as another person - they win 30 of them and you win none. It is just the way it is. And no, I am NOT the only comper here to feel that dark jealousy and anger - I'm just one of the few who will admit to itSometimes you just have to bite the bullet and accept that there are people with blessedly charmed lives and people without
I feel that the odds of winning are far less now that when I started comping because of the emergence of Facebook and Twitter. Not only are a lot of competitions on these sites won by cheats with multiple accounts but they also serve as a platform to advertise other competitions more widely.
On the whole, I've stopped caring quite so much recently about the lack of wins. Maybe it's because I feel too ill to care or maybe my spidey-senses assure me that a huge lottery win is around the corner, who knows? :rotfl:
(Oh and the last time I had a big moan on this thread, I won an iPad the next day - so maybe b!tching and whining serves as a lucky charm for some of us! Keeping my fingers crossed for you Pechow)Living with Lupus is like juggling with butterflies0 -
I aim for one win a month (Or one freebie a month.) Even free samples keep me going xx Good luck. xxWishing you all good luck!

When I first started this comping lark, it was the time that the Lady Gaga comp was on, that was mad, I won in the first day and was hooked! I entered everything and anything, won quite a few things, but found I started to enter comps for the things I actually wanted after a while, was over a year to a big win, a TV! Keep at it and good luck!
I look at the I won I won I won most days, like to see what people have won, also, this highlights comps that are still running and give you a chance to have a go if you have missed it. I do postals about once a month, do not text as I find that expensive and I list the comps like Treacle above, find its the easiest for me.
For me, I am one of those people that win things, I had my first win when I was 9, if there is a raffle I usually win something, my friends will not enter if I do! I know I am lucky, but still holding out for that biggy (ITV)!
Do not give up, your win will arrive soon (finger crossed)2020: New Year, New Decade, New Adventures!!

It's my full time job to find and post up facebook and twitter competitions
There are at least 25 a day each on facebook and the same again on twitter
On fridays it go's totally nuts and there are easily over 100 on each.
It's well worth giving it a go - it's not difficult at all
Thanks Treacle x are there any easy guides to setting up a comping Facebook account please?
Perhaps I should give it a go! x0 -
Hi JRsrule
I too recommend setting up a facebook account , when I first started comping 3 years ago I didn't really see any comps on there - now I would say its more than a quarter of all comps on there!! . Its really easy to use too
Good luckGc -Feb £87.25/ £90
Thank you to all who post !!
Such Fun !!!:j0 -
I'm not lucky either OP so I sympathise. I've only ever won a comp once and that was only because I put it in my OH's name. :rotfl:

Have faith. I'm having a pretty torrid 2012, although I'm not hammering the comps like I was in much of 2011. However, don't get disheartened when you see many people winning big prizes on a consistent basis. Sadly, many of these people are either not being truthful or, more likely, cheating by entering on behalf of everyone in their household (which is against just about all competition rules) or by doing multiple entries. Many on here will just say such people are very lucky. It's not all down to luck since it's nigh-on impossible to mathematically win 30+ prizes per month, includes a couple of 'biggies' and putting it down to luck. As purplebutterfly said, I have to just let it go and not get too worked up about it and hope and pray there's a nice WEM waiting for me when I check my emails.
Definitely get yourself a Facebook account though. There's so many comps there, and it's likely that's where comps are headed. Keep your chin up.0 -
Ah that's rubbish that you haven't won anything yet after all of those months, I think a big win must be coming your way so it will be worth the wait
I only enter the ones that I actually want to win and I try to enter ones where some effort is required as less people tend to go for those. I also keep my fingers firmly crossed and try to be as positive as posible. Hearing about other peoples wins is a massive boost
Hopefully 2012 will be a lucky year for all of us MSEers :starmod::T0 -
I hope the comping fairy sprinkles you with loads of luck (and sends a bit my way too) I am rubbish at facebook/twitter comps and don't win a sausage on them! I only enter comps once - don't have the time or inclination to do multiple enteries. I won an Xbox and kinect last year after a particularly dry spell so just keep plugging away

If !!!!!ing gets you an iPad, there must be a box of them out somewhere delayed in the mail for me :rotfl:
I would have thought that the "one entry per household" comps would check to see if there were multiple entries from the same place under a different name, but I guess not? Though there's always the route of putting a parents/friends/etc address down instead. It's a shame that some people do that, but that's the way things are.
I quite like the FB comps (well, any comps) where you have to put forth some kind of effort in a way that discourages multiple entries-like drawing, or writing, or something like that. It would be easier to tell submissions from the same people too. Takes a lot of time though.
I think we can all agree public voting competitions are the worst!!I'm not lucky either OP so I sympathise. I've only ever won a comp once and that was only because I put it in my OH's name. :rotfl:
I really must be more positive.
Perhaps I should try this, or just change my name0
