Luck-lack of it, and getting it

Options
Okay, I've been comping since the beginning of last August, and haven't won a single thing yet. That's seven months now. Thousands of entries, an hour or two everyday (yes, I'm sad to keep doing this without any 'reward' for it, so why? Because why not, and it's a nice way of zoning out for me), so 30-50+ a day and... nothing. How do people win multiple things after a few weeks starting? I'm not entirely convinced any of you are real anymore. Maybe every single person here is fake and it's all just to encourage people like me to give out our details in the hope of winning something. It's the only explanation :rotfl::rotfl:

Send some of your luck this way please everyone ;)

And just so this isn't an entirely useless post... aside from the often asked question of "How long did it take you for your first win, and what was it?", does anyone have a lucky charm, superstition, or routine they follow for luck? Even if you don't believe it really works? Something you do for fun, or things that seem to work for you :)

(Sorry to those who don't like seeing these kinds of posts-nervous about posting, and didn't know where else it could go-please be gentle, lol)

I can't really help with your lack of luck, I do believe that some people are just more lucky than others. I see these people who "started comping 3 hours ago and have already won 2 cars, a holiday and ITV cash win!!!" lol but we'll not me, I average 1 win a week if I am lucky

Hope your luck changes, it is just a matter of keeping At it and hoping that something turns up. A lot will say it is a hobby and should be fun without the prizes and when it becomes a chore you should have a break but that is easier to say when you are winning and won't make you feel any better.

Maybe change the way you enter, do you do specific dates, regulars, postcards mix it up abit and maybe entering things differently might help

    Good luck :)
Compers challenge 2024 wins!!!!.... Oct £60... £10 free spins, £50 palm, m&m pouch
  • wow that is quite a long time without a win

ive just sent you some luck

    thank me when you win
£32 worth of prizes in 2015 so far
  • I honestly think its all down to luck, how many you enter and if you are entering the big comps or anything that comes along. I only go into comps I want to win or would like to win for friends and family. I do not do comps that have prizes that do not interest me. I enter about the same as you a day but it really is just good luck. For me its a hobby and if a win comes along It puts a smile on my face for days. It is frustrating when you do not win for such along time but I am sending some winning vibes your way and hope your first win turns up soon.

  • Hi and welcome to Moneysavingexpert - most of us are a friendly bunch so don't ever feel nervous about posting.

Personally I enter competitions by end date - so I do a search and put in the date I want

For example this evening I will do all the comps ending tomorrow that I want to enter

    So my search will be

    E: 01/03

I have always entered competitions like this - so I don't have to wait long to find out if i'm a winner.

You might find that if you are entering them as they are posted up that a lot of the competitions you have entered don't end for ages - so it might take a while for you to start seeing wins.

It is also quite normal to have to wait 28 days after a competition has ended to be contacted about it or receive your win - some wins even just turn up unannounced in the post - which is quite nice.

As a final note: Make sure you are entering correctly - I run 'competitionclub' on facebook and twitter and have some useful tips for facebook and twitter comping if you need them - PM me or find me on facebook or twitter for more info.

Wishing you a lucky march - happy comping :-)
Not really comping any more as too ill - but hoping to win £1000+ in 2017 in cash prizes - watch this space!

Sadly I'm not one of those that enter 5 competitions and win 3 of them either :) I like to think that I do reasonably well though and put that down to 1) enjoying entering and 2) advice and encouragement from the lovely people on the comping boards :)

Do you enter blog comps? They are often low entry and there are some fab prizes to be won :) Good luck and fingers crossed for a BIG win for you ...

Don't worry Pechow, I've had no luck either, for a few months and, disheartening though it is, I find inspiration to continue from the IWIWIW board (even if the people who only started comping recently are walking off with super dooper prizes  :rotfl: )

I don't have a charm or superstition but I am certain that sooner or later I'm going to win a shiny bauble like an ipad (I wish)

    Good luck

I've just started comping (22 days ago, yes I'm counting!) and haven't won anything yet but I'm not really surprised!

I love the open friendliness of the compers and the forum, and it's really generous of fellow compers who do the work and are happy to share the answers etc

But am I missing out on great opportunities by not being on Facebook or Twitter? I'm not on either...and don't actually know how to use either!

Thank you all :D I used to only enter webforms where you didn't have to log in, now I register for a lot of comps, got a FB account for comping, and try to enter smaller ones on blogs etc too and those that require some effort. Of course I still do the ITV competitions and so on but that would be like winning the lottery in a way, there's so many other entrants!

Just because I'm slightly paranoid about it being taken the wrong way, I just want to say I don't mean to come across as moaning, if it does... I know it's all luck and numbers, and some people simply get randomly picked more often. It's a way of passing time and it's time I'd probably be spending in an unproductive manner anyway! One day though I would like to be picked too :P

    I'd say YES

It's my full time job to find and post up facebook and twitter competitions

There are at least 25 a day each on facebook and the same again on twitter
On fridays it go's totally nuts and there are easily over 100 on each.

It's well worth giving it a go - it's not difficult at all

  • Me and my partner only enter competitions we want to win, looking at it that way the chances of winning an ipad will be less as more people will enter for it.
We have never won a big prize and the best we have won was a thomas and friends bag of goodys from day of the diesels movie as our son is mad on thomas.
I also believe some email addresses are more lucky than others my partners won more than i have and we enter roughly the same amount of comps each.
Keep trying and dont give up hope, the best prizes are the ones that just turn up out of the blue and i hope your luck changes soon x
dec wins: thomas and friends goody bag worth £60
jan wins: a big fat 0
Feb wins: waitrose cheese plate £15??,champneys mum 2 be spa day worth £135
