OK, have auto-aid for UK & delighted with that. But moneysupermarket seem to have pulled or hidden their bike recovery comparison page referred to in the article [I used it OK last year but its gone], so a little more rooting around necessary. These are the results...

I think they changed the URL earlier in the year; it can now be found at http://www.moneysupermarket.com/roadsiderescue/

Has anyone used the NW advantage breakdown service - checking because my wife wants to cancel her RAC cover and take advantage of my NW service....

NW as in NatWest Advantage? I believe that's provided by Green Flag who utilise a national network of independant recovery operators.

It's rescue only cover though (local tow). You can find out more at http://www.greenflag.com/breakdown/rescuecover.html

I haven't read through the whole thread, so don't know if this has been mentioned (although it's definitely not been mentioned in the article - might be worth adding in?) is personal cover through your employer.

My employer has a business policy with the AA which also offers great savings for employees' private cars.

AA quoted £112 online for Roadside, Homestart and Relay (although utilising Quidco brings that down to £62). I have just taken out the same policy through my employer for £44.
  • Morning all,

can anyone advise me before I take a years roadside cover out - do Autoaid work as RAC etc? Will they repair by the roadside before towing it away to a garage?

Do local garages have the same equipment as the big boys? It seems a bit extreme to be without the car for a day or two when a bit of tinkering on the side of the motorway would allow me to get on my way.

    Many thanks

    Yes

Yes, but like the AA/RAC, they won't have parts for every model of every car.

Yes they will do tinkering. They do carry some spares. If you car is run of the mill e.g. Fiesta then you stand a better chance of them having parts than if you have an Audi or something more unusual as clearly they cannot carry everything.
I have had Subarus for years and they never have the parts I need.
  • Does anyone have experience of rescuemycar.com? It comes up as cheapest on moneysupermarket.com but isn't mentioned in the article.

I had them as my breakdown cover provider last year. Fortunately didn't have to use them, but they were very tin pot in all my dealing with them. Won't be going there again.

There is a thread about it below which just seems to have woken up after a couple of years in the doldrums

Our AA renewal was £192.50 - just about all options taken - so we have been looking around. We've had good service, had to use them a couple of times in each of last two years, and need to cover two cars and scooter for two people.
Equivalent RAC, with online discount and Quidco cashback was coming in at about £125.00. So I called the AA and said I wanted to discuss the renewal and without having even to ask for a reduction teh chap said...."What the computer doesn't look at when it sends the renewals out is how long you have been with us [17 yrs] and how many times you have called us out [4 times in last 2 yrs]. We can bring the same level of cover down to £144.00"

Given years of good serivce, I accepted. But they should get a new computer. Or stop sending out renewals in the hope that people won't question it!!
