Is this the kind of policy one can appeal against?
I am not entirely sure who sold it to us. Most of your articles mention complaining to the banks bus surely our first redress should be to Sentinel card protection. We had policies before and after 2005.

This thread is about PPI. it is not about Sentinal.

  • Hi all,

I am looking to claim for PPI for a loan I took out with Egg and had a couple of questions that I was wondering if people could help with.

I originally took out a loan in 2003 and this definitely had PPI and I have the paperwork then in 2006 I topped up my loan but am not sure if PPI is included at this point, I recall cancelling the policy at some point but not sure if this was before 2006 or after.

The loan in 2006 was for £18,336 over 5 years @7.9% APR. It says the total charge is £3795.00 and the repayment instalments were £368.85 per month. Can anyone work out if this is the Interest alone? What concerns me is a sentence that says

"You have the right to bring this agreement to an end at any time by making a single payment to cover both the cash amount lent and the payment protection premium lent." It then goes on to give some figures after 1/4, 1/2, or 3/4 of the term.

I cannot see any other reference to payment protection in the paperwork.

Secondly, does anyone have experience of claiming back from Egg as I know they are no longer in operation and I have found an address to write to which is Citibank?

    Many thanks all :-)
  • I need help please.

I have just had a response from the adjudicator lookin into my case at FOS they are not upholding my complaint based upon "You made it clear you wanted to take the policy out in your application"
i called and asked what proof they had as barclays ignored my request for proof! they told me they had a sample from the application process - not my own application!
i asked for this to be sent to me, i have looked at it and it does not look familiar at all!!! at all!! :(
They have based their decision on a sample...
    what can i do now!?
i am certain it was a Pre-ticked box cause i don't recall any information about insurance and didn't receive any documentation!

i dont know what to do now....

As the accuser, the burden of proof is upon you not the accused(the bank).
So Barclays don't have to provide proof that what you say isn't true.
they told me they had a sample from the application process - not my own application!
As long as this "sample" is representative of what you would have been presented with at the time of your application, then it's perfectly fair that both the Bank and the Ombudsman have based their findings on this.
i asked for this to be sent to me, i have looked at it and it does not look familiar at all!!! at all!!
It does not matter whether you recognise it "at all!!! at all!!", unless you can provide proof of your assertion that there was a pre-ticked box your complaint will fail
    what can i do now!?
Very little, if you applied online for the insurance then this means you mis-bought rather than were mis-sold since no bank staff actually sold it to you.
i am certain it was a Pre-ticked box
You need to be more than "certain". The Bank and FOS know when pre-ticked boxes were employed and they are telling you that there was no pre-ticked box on your application.
    i don't recall any information
You can't complain simply because you cannot remember.
    and didn't receive any documentation!
Again, the Bank are saying information was provided.
i dont know what to do now....
Since both the Bank and now FOS has rejected your complaint it's probably time to give up. However, if you insist on taking the "complaint" all the way to it's final conclusion then you have the right to appeal the decision of the adjudicator and an actual Ombudsman will look at it. This will take many more months and is unlikely to succeed in overturning your failure, based on what you complained about.

    Sorry.

Hi, I have had PPI on my overdraft for as long as i can remember £16 month , I was recently made unemployed after 22 years!! , I contacted the bank to make a claim, it would have been around £210 a month ( every little helps). Due to the payment in lieu they said it would be 4 months before i could claim!!! I had to send millions of things in to prove the claim and send bank statements every month, I was livid and said if this is the best they can do I would claim back the PPI, 'good luck; they said.

Using the simple forms on here I wrote to them stating the insurance was unsuitable for me due to my length of service, to save more money i handed it into my local branch so they could post it (saved a stamp) and 1 week later I got a letter of them saying they was looking into it, The next day £6500 was put in my bank from them!!! you can imagine how happy i was, i was only expecting around £1500. This has allowed me to clear all my debts, it cost noting, and all because they would not give me my £200 .. yu don't need others to claim for you, follow the guides here and do it yourself and save 1000's , Thanks Martin.
total length of claim from start to payment - 8 days, I Wonder if its a record :)

If you had PPI on this loan it will show on the agreement with the loan amount total and the interest.
If it is not there then you had no PPI, the % of the term would (if you had no PPI) relate to the loan if you settled early at any of those term lengths, it refers to PPI in case the loan had it.
Look at the agreement and see if the PPI is there.

Yes, it's just general terms and conditions rather than anything specific to the OP's loan.

If "Champersgirl" cannot see PPI in the actual agreement, I agree she never had it.
  • Hi, I am attempting to claim PPI myself, I know we were mis sold this from car craft about 12 years ago, but I can not find my account number anywhere.

Because it was so long ago does this mean I am probably wasting my time?

    Thanks in advance :)

    Yes.
Car Craft were not regulated prior to 2005, so they can reject any complaint you might make on that basis and you have no right of referral to the Ombudsman.
  • ok annoying but thank you, would of been worse if Id of spent time claiming. Trying very hard not to get a 3rd parties help so thanks again
