PPI Reclaiming Discussion Part 5

Now comes my problem reading the relevant forms that I would need to fill in I would have to say I can’t remember a lot of the details about setting up these loans.
Saying you cant remember on old cases is expected and not a problem. It only tends to be an issue on weak complaints using hearsay which cant be proven anyway. All I know is if it was optional and I didn’t need it I wouldn’t have taken it out. Is it worth pursuing with so little memory of the meetings?
That is a weak complaint as there is no evidence to support that. Do you have anything a bit stronger? Such as employer benefits overlapping or single premium PPI on the loans?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Guys
I've just had a cold call saying they are from Moneysavingexpert.com and they have a cheque for £4,681 for bank/PPI mischarges. To get the cheque delivered they want me to get a £200 voucher from a local PayPoint to cover admin and they will then call me back!
This has to be a fraud. I must get PPI calls every day but this is the first where they want me to pay up something and the first where they are actually using MSE's good name.
Has anyone come across this??
For reference they are going to call me back so I will string this along to get more details from this company...0 -

It is a fraud. I suggest you contact the board admin directly using an email address.
It is a form of advance fee fraud. MSE doesnt do anything like that.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Thanks!
I certainly will do that. I'll also keep you posted on what other info I can get from them.0 -
Hi All
I am after an idiots guide to claiming ppi on 2 store cards I had forgotten I had till I checked my equifax score.
both debenhams and laura ashley ( both paid off a few years ago) were taken over by Santander, but I don't have my account numbers for either. I assume that as they still show on the equifax page, they are still in the time frame for claiming.
do I contact santander and just ask them for the relevant info?
any advice gratefully received.0 -
You need to post when the cards were taken out - before or after 2005 as that is the key date for regulation commencing. I believe before 2005 they can just dismiss your complaint as pre-regulation.
If they are still open (or at least be active within the last 6 years) you could get some info from Santander if you simply ask - you won't get records but they might at least confirm they are aware of you.
Firstly ascertain you did actually have PPI - no point complaining if you didn't!
Secondly, remember that just having PPI is not a problem, it's only being mis-sold PPI that is the problem, so what evidence do you have you were mis-sold? E.g. you had cover elsewhere that would pay your bills if you were ill or were ineligible to claim on it.
Did you pay off the minimum on the card each month or in full?Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Hi, Thanks for replying. I have rooted out my old cards, so now have the account numbers, I am aware that PPI can be a useful thing for people, but as I work for the NHS, and have done for the past 30 years, it isnt really needed for me. I am pretty sure that there was PPI on both, and I ended up having to get a loan out to pay them off ( no ppi on that). will ring and find out what I can.
thanks for the help.0 -
Hi, I'm new to the site and not sure if anyone will be able to answer my question or if it's even related to PPI. When I took out my mortgage many years ago I was told that I had to take out their building insurance cover. Over the years the costs have increased considerably. When I made contact with them I was told that I was not obliged to continue taking out their insurance cover. As a result I changed companies and saved myself a few quid. Is this considered mis-selling as I didn't get an option to look for better deals with other insurance companies.0

Correct. It is a mandatory with all lenders.Over the years the costs have increased considerably. When I made contact with them I was told that I was not obliged to continue taking out their insurance cover.
Also correct. About 15 or so years ago that requirement ended. It could be any insurer subject to lender approval. Is this considered mis-selling as I didn't get an option to look for better deals with other insurance companies.
No its not. You were not required to be told to look for better deals.or if it's even related to PPI.

Is this the kind of policy one can appeal against?
I am not entirely sure who sold it to us. Most of your articles mention complaining to the banks bus surely our first redress should be to Sentinel card protection. We had policies before and after 2005.0
