PPI Reclaiming Discussion Part 5

ok, so I sent HSBC a message through the online messaging service requesting copies of all loan documentation they hold for me. I didn't say it was for PPI but when they replied they used the subject 'PPI' and said they were looking into my request and that it would take upto 8 weeks. So I thought they had just gone ahead and opened up a PPI complaint/claim for me. Nope, all I got back was a letter saying they didn't hold the documents I'd requested but they did provide me with all the loan account numbers I'd held with them so clearly they hold some data about these loans.
I'm sure at least 2 of the 5 loands had PPI on them but with documentation for proof of misselling, what are my chances of them giving me anything? How good are HSBC at dealing with claims where no documents are held by the claiment?
I went into branch with the letter and she told me that it's upto the bank to find this documentation not me so to write again stating I wish to make a PPI complaint regarding the loan account numbers listed on the letter, stating I am aware I do not need the documentation to go ahead with the claim. I got the standard 'we are dealing with your complaint' reply.
Anyone have any experience of claiming this way, what was the outcome?0 -
Hiya!
I need some advice!
I sent two months ago my first letter with the questionnaire included to my bank. I took a loan in oct 2007. I don't have the original agreement only my statements that came once a year.
I do remember buying the loan where the lady included all sort and me being quite new and this being my fist loan ever accepting taking more money given that it also gave better rates. Not sure about ppi ever being mentioned.
Anyway, decided to try and see if it was included in my package as it seems it was in all of them. But the bank is saying that due to Data Protection Act they do not keep records indefinitely, therefore even if the ppi commenced over 6 years ago, any records may have been destroyed. Now I remember I paid it in full before it ended but I it was still 'alive' in oct 2008. Anyhow am I been thick here? If it started in Oct 2007 is not over 6 years is it?
What should I do next?
Thank for any help!0 -

My original letter was a template one an said I was wanting to complain as I believed I had been mis sold PPI. So do you think I can reply saying I am unhappy with the decision made as not only was I self employed and their records are wrong but I should have not been sold it on those hours any way. Do u also think a letter or a phone call is the best way (as a letter is easier to record)?
A letter is best, put the reasons why you reject the reasons they gave for not upholding and enclose a copy of the info they have given you showing your employment status, tell them you have always been self employed and could have made the payments should the worst happen.0 -

Sorry if something like this has already been discussed, but i went to Halifax Bank over the weekend and asked for PPI info and which loans i had been affected with.. she kindly gave me a List of Loans, and credit cards upon where i had PPI.. The question i have is based on the steps MSE has given, would the best thing be to contact the bank with this info and push for a claim? or would it be more beneficial to go via ombudsman from the word go.?
FYI - I also have a long term Loan with HSBC which actually states clearly " you have opted to not go for Personal protection insurance" so i cant really do anything on that...

I'm after a little help & advice reference PPI. I have had a letter from HSBC informing me that I may have been "missold PPI" by them when I took out a loan with them at some unspecified time in the past. Whilst I know I did take out personal loans with them (either repaid or transferred to a DCA), I was pretty sure that I had not taken out PPI as I was aware I didn't qualify to claim (I'm an ex-serviceman & had a lot of jobs after I finished my time in 1998).
The form they have sent out asks me about what they told me at the time, & whether I would have had means to cover payments if unemployed etc (basically, the answer is I would have covered payments either by family help or via Service charities if in dire need). I am pretty sure I would have not wanted PPI, and would have not voluntarily asked for it.
My questions are:-
1. Should I fill in the form & send it off in the hope I'll get a refund, especially as they have tracked me down?
2. Would I prejudice any claim if I contacted them to ask which loan this refers to?
Any help/advice will be gratefully received....

This is Mortgage PPI and some are not reclaimable as there is a need for it, one of our experts in this field , Dunstonh or Magpiecottage may come on later and help you more with this.0 -

My Farther recently passed away. I have found paperwork relating to a card protection plan bought from CPP and i wondered if i would be able to claim on his behalf?
Thank You
If it is not a large balance and more PPI was paid than the balance, they should let you make a claim, you need to know that the reasons for mis sell will be very limited as you do not know how this was sold etc.0 -
Hi, Newbie here. After reading about claiming on this site, I wrote to all my credit card companies claiming that I'd been mis-sold PPI as I was now and always had been self-employed. I'd stopped all PPI payments in approx 2004, too expensive.
I had NO old credit card statements to support my claim, nothing at all!
MINT have paid up £1300, NatWest are shortly paying me £4500. Yippee!
Barclays however say they cannot find my records for an Egg credit card which they took over and which I'm still paying off. I'm sure there was PPI on there when I transferred a balance on taking out the card. It was an online credit card anyway, bit much of them to expect me to now send copies of statements, I never printed any. Any ideas what to do now?
I had a Tesco credit card for about four years in early 2000's, eventually paid it off and closed the account down. Again, I'm sure there was PPI for a while on that but Tesco won't even give me the old credit card number, they say they have no record of it now, too long ago to dig out. I don't believe them, but what can i do?
Finally (honestly) I have a copy of a credit agreement from 2000 with First National Tricity Finance, a £2160 Hire Purchase agreement to buy computers. It says I paid £231.42 PPI premium. Is it too late to ask for that back, where is 'FNTF' now (some say GE, some say NatWest), should I chase the computer company that filled in the form (they still exist). Thanks for help on any of these questions, I promise never to write such a long message again!!0
