  • Hi thanks for the reply is there a template that I can use, or is it just the case of writing to them? What if i don't know the account numbers or agreement no's as I bought two things on finance from currys as well! Btw what happens if they turn around and say they can't find my details/account?.

    Thanks

Hi. Completely new to this so not sure if I am doing it right. I have had a credit card for at least 10yrs with HSBC. At the time of taking it out I was self employed. 4 yrs ago I started working for a company but still was self employed with my main trade. I recently wrote to HSC for my info an said that I think I mis sold ppi as I was self employed. They ave just wrote back to me with an annual review if ppi (never had one of these before) an that they have my employment status as 'part time' which they say indicates I worked less that 16 hrs per wk and therefore would not be eligible to make a claim. They are saying that they assume their current record of employment status is out of date and want to up date their records. I don't ever remember saying I ever worked less that 16hrs as I never have done. I wil ring them but wondered if any one else has had the same problem and how it got sorted. Thank u.

Depends on whether you're complaining or not.
Working les than 16hrs a week means you shouldn't have been paying PPI.

  • My original letter was a template one an said I was wanting to complain as I believed I had been mis sold PPI. So do you think I can reply saying I am unhappy with the decision made as not only was I self employed and their records are wrong but I should have not been sold it on those hours any way. Do u also think a letter or a phone call is the best way (as a letter is easier to record)?

I took out ppi with Eagle Star quite some years ago but dont know how to start a ppi claim. Can anyone help please
  • I know for certain that i had ppi because when i tried to make a claim they told me i would need to be off work a minimum of three months before they would be able to help. At that point i would have been three months in arrears on my mortgate.

    Hello All

I'm after a little help & advice reference PPI. I have had a letter from HSBC informing me that I may have been "missold PPI" by them when I took out a loan with them at some unspecified time in the past. Whilst I know I did take out personal loans with them (either repaid or transferred to a DCA), I was pretty sure that I had not taken out PPI as I was aware I didn't qualify to claim (I'm an ex-serviceman & had a lot of jobs after I finished my time in 1998).
The form they have sent out asks me about what they told me at the time, & whether I would have had means to cover payments if unemployed etc (basically, the answer is I would have covered payments either by family help or via Service charities if in dire need). I am pretty sure I would have not wanted PPI, and would have not voluntarily asked for it.
    My questions are:-
    1. Should I fill in the form & send it off in the hope I'll get a refund, especially as they have tracked me down?
    2. Would I prejudice any claim if I contacted them to ask which loan this refers to?
Any help/advice will be gratefully received....
    Thanks
  • hey All,

Sorry if something like this has already been discussed, but i went to Halifax Bank over the weekend and asked for PPI info and which loans i had been affected with.. she kindly gave me a List of Loans, and credit cards upon where i had PPI.. The question i have is based on the steps MSE has given, would the best thing be to contact the bank with this info and push for a claim? or would it be more beneficial to go via ombudsman from the word go.?

FYI - I also have a long term Loan with HSBC which actually states clearly " you have opted to not go for Personal protection insurance" so i cant really do anything on that...

You have no access to the Ombudsman service until you have followed the complaints process with your lender and they have rejected your complaint fully and finally.

    EGG Loan & credit card
    MINT (RBS) Credit card

Hope I get some acknowledgement letters soon...!

    Update:
    £9.5k back from HSBC

MINT/RBS... RBS SAR team unable to find my details. Additional details sent to them. No response to date and £10 not cashed.:mad::mad:

EGG - did not use questionaire for both loan and credit card. They only investigated the credit card - outcome... no PPI.
New questionaire completed for EGG Loan.
