    Good evening,

I had a mortgage with the Halifax for 8 years starting back in 1997 and paid mortgage PPI every month. I am a nurse working in the NHS so have an excellent package to cover sickness redundancy etc. Looking back I cannot believe that I paid out so much to the bank when I need not have done so. When I changed mortgage to another bank it wasn't even offered. Is this something I can look to claiming? The original letter says that they they strongly recommend I take out PPI and being my first mortgage I did as I was advised. Any one have some advice for me? Many thanks.

    Hi and welcome

Yes I would certainly look into this, and it's known that mortgage ppi was sold within mortgages more so going back around that time and so (but wrong they done that really).
As we know it is important to be protected, but that does not mean they should insist that you take out their very own, where you could have gone elsewhere and besides if you already had protection in place at the time as well, I think you may have a case here.;)

Good grief! I just logged into my online banking, and they've paid me my PPI today! I only opened the letter from them yesterday. That's certainly cleared my overdraft. I'd anticipated they'd hang on to the cash until closer to the cut-off date at the end of the month.

All toll, that's pretty much 8 weeks to the day from sending off the forms to receiving the money. Very happy bunny :D

    Wonderful news!:T Congratulations!

There's a thread on here entitled mortgage ppi i believe, that should tell you more, but yes if you have reasons for being misold which you sound as if you have then put a claim in

  • I'm new to this forum and looking for some help. I had PPI mis sold to me back in 2004. I took out a £15.000 loan through a broker and they instructed me that PPI was essential in order for me to obtain the loan through GE Money the amount for the PPI was £2250.00. This was even though I was and still am in full time employment with full sickness benefits available. I reluctantly agreed and took the loan out over a 15 year period. I ended up repaying the loan after 11 months by remortgaging my house. I contacted GE Money at the time and was given £500 for paying the loan off early. I have attempted to claim for the Misselling of the PPI and have received a response back from GE Money stating as a broker sold the policy to me then GE are not liable and the Broker is. I tried contacting the broker to clarify this but they have gone into administration and are no longer trading. I am thinking of going down the line of the financial services ombudsman but not sure if its worth it if what GE Money claim is true..... any advice would be a massive help........many thanks

Hi ginger daddy i'd talk to the ombudsman anyway and see what they advise.

Hi Toni if there's no missed payments on your card and the account is up to date they should pay the money to you, this doesn't always happen though as sometimes they apply it to the existing balance, but you should be ok, if they did this i'd challenge it. All the best.
