PPI Reclaiming Discussion Part 5

Hi all, I've been trying to decide weather to look at a PPI complaint for a few months now. After finding this site and the amazing guides that have been provided, I decided that I should put some effort in and see if I have a valid claim.
I have a couple of questions, that I hope somone could help with:
My concern relates to a mortgage that my wife and I took out with Nationwide back in 2004. It was our first home and we were quite naive when it came to these things. I remember very clearly being sat in the motgage advisors office and being presented with agreements to sign - one for the motgage itself and the other for an insurance policy that would provide payment cover in the event of death or illness. I understand that insurance is very often mandatory when taking out a mortgage, but surely you should be given a choice in who the insurance provider is? In our case, we were not given a choice - it was presented to us as "if you want this mortgage, you have to have this as well".
So my first question is, does our complaint sound like something that would give us grounds for claiming PPI miss selling, or are policies relating to mortgages not covered?
Secondly if we do have grounds to complain, who do we complain about? Our mortgage was with Nationwide, but the mortgage advisor and person that processed our application was from Countrywide Mortgage Services. So we are unsure who we should direct our complaint to.
Any help or suggestions would be very welcome!
Tony.

Can I try to claim PPI from a loan if I have no paperwork and no idea if there was any PPI on the loan? It was with Northern Rock in 2007. Also can anyone recommend any claims handling companies that have not ripped people off? I know this site says you can do it yourself but as I dont even know if I had PPI so I cant really fill in much of the claim form that is provided.0

closing balance £2020.50
direct debit £41.72
interest on your standard balance 0.94

INTEREST ON YOUR CASH BALANCE £42.51
interest 2.000%
total of new transactions £43.45
what is the difference between standard balance and cash balance ?
Sorry about thismeant to answer yesterday.
I think cash balances ( maybe cash withdrawals as opposed to buying something) are charged at a higher rate of interest than standard balanceCould not help you then much and I cannot help you now really

You can use a claims co if you want to, you will get the account numbers to make the claim and the claims co will take a hefty % plus vat off your win just for posting the claim form off, or you can contact NR and ask if they can find you and take it from there, give as much info as you can to help them find you.
Send a Sar request if you have no joy with the above, enclose £10, ask for all info they hold on you and give them 40 days to respond.
You will have to do the Sar and checking at the bank for a claims co, so save yourself some money and DIY.
Ask your bank if they still have the DD details for this loan, if they do the account number will be there, check your credit file and use the last 4 digits of the account number for NR.
Contact NRAM by email to see if they can find you.

Hi All. Could anyone please advise me -I've sent a letter to HSBC requesting copies of my paperwork for for loans/cards with PPI (using the first draft letter on this site), but 4 weeks have passed and I've had no response from them.
Is there anything I should do other than just pester them?
Thanks0 -
I've finally, through a SAR request, been sent previous statements from one bank that I held a credit card account with.
Where on the statement would I be able to see if there was PPI associated with this account?
On the statement, all it has is account number, balance, limit, and transaction details for purchases. No mention there of PPI, does that mean that I didn't have PPI with this particular account?
Any advice much appreciated!0 -
I have contacted RBS requesting a copy of the original PPI agreement only to be told that it has been misfiled and they are unable to locate it. Does any one have any advice on how to proceed to establish whether I have been missold please?:eek:0

I have been making a claim for PPI from TESCO Finance, with regard to a credit card I had with them for around 5 years in early 2000. I have had various correspondence, they firstly said I had no card with them, despite sending a copy of their own credit card statement with PPI clearly added.
I then waited for a further 8 weeks and then contacted them again having heard nothing. They said they had been in touch and sent a letter to say that I still had no Credit Card with them. I then sent all the details again and they said it would be progressed ASAP.
I have now had a letter to say that they have no record of my Credit Card and can only offer PPI back on the statement I sent £2.73p, this has added insult to injury.
Can anyone offer any advise, I am loathed to accept any such offer but is it worth pursuing any further and if so what is the next step?
Help if anyone can please??0 -
I paid of a loan about 6 and half year ago, also had credit card, but don,t have any paperwork. Sent a SAR letter to bank, for my information. They have now asked me to pop in too see them, regarding letter. Do I say it for ppi, they might say they don,t have anything, What do I say to them, they might try to fob me of.0
