PPI Reclaiming Discussion Part 5

Hi,
I was hoping someone might be able to give me some advice.
I found some old statements from my house of fraser store card (which I still have but is now a creditcard) and noticed I was paying an account cover premium.
I must have cancelled it at some point but have no paperwork about it. I'd hazard a guess that I signed up to it when I first took out the card but would also hazard a guess that I had no clue what it was; I was signed up by the girl on the make up counter to get a discount and was about 20 (possibly also without a job!)
Anyway, I called Santander who underwrite the card now and they couldn't give me any information.
So, I'm using the template on the site to ask for details, the one that includes £1.
However, it only asks about the credit agreement. Should I amend it slightly to add a sentence like: 'Also, please include details of the account cover premium'.
Is that a good idea? And has anyone had any experience with House of Fraser?
Thanks in advance!

Your statements would show if you were paying PPI on your credit cards, look for any mention of an insurance payment. It may be worded as 'payment cover', a 'protection plan', 'ASU', 'card protection', 'card care' or similar.
If you ask the Bank and they do say "no", then you can request a Subject Access Request (SAR)
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1475553
This costs £10 and should show any loans, credit cards and insurance policies you've held with them for at least the last six years (but often longer)
Whether you mistrust the Bank enough to gamble that £10 is your call.0 -
Afternoon,
My name is Alex and I'm Portuguese, so first of all my sincere apologies if my English sounds or looks really wrong.
I've been living in the UK for several years now, and the same way a lot of English people is trying to save some money and trying to not-be-fooled by certain institutions (mainly banks) I decided to had a go too on how things work PPI related.
I've read several posts for several days, and maybe because English is not my first language I feel really confused, not knowing how to apply to be refunded, not knowing which fees are actually normal and "legal".
Without disrespecting anyone, I'm not saying certain people give wrong answers to PPI related questions, what I mean is there's so many different answers that my head got more confused than actually was before I start reading the posts in this forum.
I would be very appreciated if someone could help me because I need probably the same way you need too to "count my pennies" on a day-by-day basis.
I have 4 bank accounts and 1 Credit Card account with Lloyds,
1 Silver Account, 1 Classic Account, 1 Easy Saving Account, 1 Save account and 1 Credit Card Account.
I'll try to be direct as much as I can not making you "fall asleep".
Silver Account
Overdraft Limit £50 (Fees apply if I pass that limit - I think is understandable)
Main Account for Direct Debits
Lloyds TSB charges me £20 per every missed/unpaid Direct Debit (is this normal?)
Charge £8 to be a Silver Account which I never seen any difference from Classic to Silver.
Last month because I didn't pay one Direct Debit when they charged me their £20 I went beyond my £50 limit so this month they're going to charge me more fees because I passed the overdraft limit even if it was already because of their fees. (can they do that?)
Classic Account
Only use it for day-by-day purchases (Petrol, food, etc)
Overdraft Limit £50
No problems on this one despite what I think it's normal the fees for the £50 overdraft.
Easy Saver
No problems
Saving Account
No Problems
Credit Card
Now here comes a big one.
Limit £500, I've used £498 in December and I've been trying to pay it bit by bit, you know £50 on month, £75 other month, and so on, but sometimes I have a Credit Card insurance going to my Credit Card account and remove sometimes £74 as I've seen last month, this meant that I wasn't in -£498 anymore but -£572 and this been happening every single month, I understand there's a small interest for being in -£498 but is it worth £74?! I try to pay to try to cover my credit card and I end up not doing even a scratch since the Insurance fees are always bigger then the amount I'm putting in.
I approached the bank and explained to them this way I couldn't pay back my credit card, and they replied I should call the Insurance to cancel it, when I called them and explain the situation I've mentioned certain things that I read here on MSE related to PPI and straight away the reaction I got from the other side of the line was kind of rushing top cancel it.
Now, my main thought was: rushing? If I cancel it I will loose a possibility of refund? or they think if I'll cancel it I won't ask any money back?
So I didn't cancelled it and I'm now here writing this post to look for some advice.
First the main question, am I entitled to any refunds?
If yes, what should I do?
Is there any template letters for me to write since my English phrase construction is not one of the best?
Do I need to check/do anything before I submit those letters not to get backfired or something?
Thank you for reading and thank straight away for any comments or advices.
Best regards and enjoy your week.

You can send a Subject Access Request (SAR) letter;

and see what that turns up. Be aware it costs £10.0 -

There are also template letters which you can use at this link.
Hope this helps0 -
Hi all haven't been on for ages but thought id share some funny news. I complained to HSBC over 18 months ago about a loan i took in 1997 which i know i had payment cover on but had a response from them saying that unless i had documents then they couldn't pursue complaint as they didn't have any evidence on file as it was over six years old but amazingly the call centre actually confirmed account number to me, by the by, any way i have been sorting loft out and came across some paper work which i thought was this old loans agreement, so i rang HSBC and told them id found agreement and hey bingo new complaint, apologies, and expect a reply in 8 weeks! they have asked for a copy of agreement but im not sending it, i will supply if i have to go to FOS, they obviously already have bloody info. I see they still applying stalling tactics!0

Get the bloody thing copied and send it (together with a completed FOS questionnaire) to HSBC immediately.
Do you really want to wait another year for any redress???:eek:0 -

Thanks for this. The account isn't 'closed' per se, it 'became' a creditcard from a storecard. So when I called Santander, they could see basic info about the account premium (ie that I had it!) but nothing more. So the 'store card' account has become archived I guess whilst the 'credit' is still live...
Does that make sense?
Sorry!
