I usually keep them on phone and they say boot up your computer i say beep and they are still waiting then we go through the routine of me saying yes and making noises with my mouth then i tell them i have not got a computer as it broke months ago cannot afford another one, so how can you say that after scanning my computer i have got problems. Another one is when they ask for someone i say hang on i will transfer you and i transfer them to my other cordless phone that usually does it they have hung up if not i answer saying "Hello Telephone Preference Service can i help you."
The solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.

personally cant be bothered with them any more, i've had 4 calls this week. they say your system it registered on our computer and i ask HOW did it get registered with your system, this is a self-built computer, and they put the phone down.
I had a good go at them the other day when they phoned me, i told him he was a scammer, and he replied have i asked you for money, i said not yet but you will, he told me to go to some website to download a remote access program, i didnt i typed in the name of the site into google.

Then he said he could hack my computer, i told him to go ahead and he gave me a 8 digit number he could type in. guess of course that was for the [text removed by MSE Forum Team] remote program. lol. so i sat there and said well i'm waiting, i'm waiting for you to move my mouse you call yourself a hacker.

Virginmedia say they cant trace the calls they can only get the numbers you dial out. not incoming calls. [text removed by MSE Forum Team]
my neighbour has a box which shows the incoming call number and if it says no number he lets it ring and ring, thinking of getting one of these aswell, preferably with a automatic reply asking the caller to phone back with a listed number as all calls which say no number gets this message and nothing else.

Get them all the time usually we ignore them but last year one was passed to me so I had a bit of fun confusing the heck out of them and had them on for 45 minutes before I got bored.

I wrote a long blogspot of how I strung them along and also recorded the last 8 minutes of the conversation which is also on the post, link:-

It start with me talking to them for 20mins whilst my PC booted up, slowly.... ;)

Just popped on to get help with my laptop and saw this thread :rotfl:and I will wait to sort my laptop.

This has made my day, at last someone is getting their own back - my father-in-law who lives with us got scammed a few months ago

FIL is 72 and can just about cope with ebay and emails etc. Unfortunately he is home alone all day and while we were out at work he got the dreaded call

When I got in from work I checked the phone for messages and there was one message, the person had rung at 4pm. FIL then said he must have missed it as he was on the phone to Microsoft

He had logged on his computer and given them access to it . Dh went upstairs and disconnected it all but they had free access for 2 hours

He had also paid them (not sure how much as he won't admit it now but previously did say it was £90) for some software - the software on his computer was all stuff you can get for free

We told him to cancel his card and he refused to until the morning so I am not sure if they managed to get any more money from him during this time.

I think he was embarassed which is why he wouldn't do anything about it.

He is under strict instructions not to switch his computer on for anyone.

I'm waiting for them to ring when I am here so I can have some fun :rotfl:

Last April/May I had a lot of these calls and decided to see how long I could keep them on the line, reasoning that while they were talking to me they were not scamming some vulnerable person. This was my plan as explained in another thread:
"When he calls I will be in the bathroom and have to finish what I am doing before proceeding. Then I will have to make my way slowly (I have a dodgy leg) to the other end of my very large house to the room where I keep my computer. Of course the computer will need to be switched on which takes a long time because it is working very slowly. Also I am not very good with computers so I will find it very difficult to understand what he is asking me to do. The bad phone line won't help of course and he will need to repeat everything. Then various items will be missing from Windows menus. I will remain polite at all times and thank him for helping me deal with the problems I have been having with my computer."
I managed 43 minutes then a week later 61 minutes.
I thought that was good until I read about JB's 1hr 45 min at #44. Awesome"
  • I have just had the "microsoft scam" call
He had my name and phone number
I gave him a 15 minute nightmare!!! I asked if Microsoft were calling all 10 million households in the UK!
Eventually I said - as a responsible citizen I would take his number and call him back before I handed over control of the computer to his specialist technician
    He gave me the number - 0203 582 0789
I did not call and of course I won't - I will however send all my contacts this information.
    Cheek of these people

    Dear Sabby,
I Work For Global PC Helpline. If you are a subscriber then we would be glad to help you even if you call in midnight.
Global PC Helpline is not a Scam. We fix issues related to our subscriber's Computer/Laptop or any other Computer peripheral.
It is unfortunate that most of the call centers mislead the customers by telling them that they are calling from microsoft. We do not follow same model. However we tell our customers that we have Microsoft Certified Professionals (which is true and can be proved if asked).
We request you to contact support team if you ever face issues. Having a facebook page since last 2 years, running the same website from 3 years and having 4 toll free numbers for four different countries couldn't be a part of scam.
We request you to confirm the facts before you post "Negative" views about any company with a strength of 45 Technicians.
Should you or anyone else here have any questions about Global PC Helpline or the way we run our Business please do not hesitate t post here.
    Thanks,

crikey they are hunting people down in forums.

Although you might think you are genuine, unsolicited phone calls are not. We would like to know where you get our phone numbers from? as it is a breach of the data protection act.

Scaring people who do not understand computers into using your services is not a good way to run a business, hence the bad name you have acquired over time with these ridiculous phone calls.
    ewwwww what is that...

Some of you guys have too much spare time! If I wasn't such so tight-pocketed (its the Yorkshire in me) I'd pay for callerid and ignore all hidden number calls. With this lot, rather than just hang up, I say I haven't got a computer. Not much fun really as the call is rather short :-)

They went away after you said that?! They still tried to keep me talking.after I.said I had no computer and called me 4+ times a day. Got my number changed in the end.

The only other way I deal with calls like those is to hand the phone to my nearly 2 year old who.will happily babble to them.
