Just had my call from the "Windows Support Centre" and I am a dismal failure only managed to keep the woman on the line for about 5 mins (hangs head in shame).

We did waste a few seconds talking about the replacements windows I had installed in the house and the problems I had with the fitters ;)

Well, after many months of feeling snubbed and truely left out - I received a call from the Indian Call Centre :j

    ( Now - remember I am running Windows 7 and was bored ;) )

As soon as I got the call I recognised it for what it was, and checked the time and decided to try to delay him as much as possible

He started off by telling me to make sure my computer was switched on. Even though it was already on - I waited a whole five minutes before I finally tell him it had booted up. ( told him on a couple of occasions that it was really slow and probably infected, but as I was an idiot I didn't know how to repair it :A )

Next he tells me to click the "Windows Circle" in the bottom left. I told him that I couldn't see one. This went on for several minutes as I kept telling him that all I could see in the bottom left was the clock ( which was a total lie ;) ).

He puts me on "hold" - which turns out to simply putting the phone on the desk as I could still hear everything in the background. Anyways, after another few minutes, another voice comes on the phone, he explains that he is the supervisor and starts to ask the same question - "what can I see in the bottom left corner of my screen"

Finally, he decides to ask what I can see in the top right. Getting rather bored at this point, I told him I could see some writing. I "mumble" the word to him "UBUNTU" and he really does not understand - so after another minute or so, he asks me to spell it..

U-B-U-N-T-U... His reaction?? Nothing, he really does not understand :p

Then he asks me what version of Windows I'm using !! I tell him that I thought he was working for Windows and that he could see all my "errors" and why didn't he know? He decides to tell me that, because of the errors, it is hard to tell from the data he has in front of him. ( :rotfl: Got him to repeat this twice (and very slowly) by telling him I didn't understand his accent :rotfl: )

So, I finally let on that UBUNTU is not a Windows system. This confuses him even more, before the penny finally drops and he says that he works for "Windows" (NB: not Microsoft!! ) and hangs up :rotfl::rotfl:

Total time :- 23 mins

I really hope that I get another one as I will try to improve on the time :D

Thank you for confirming that this is a scam. My 2nd such call was 15mins ago and my phone is nowhere near my computer - thank goodness- so he was unable to 'help' me. I suppose everyone has some problems with computers so it would have been easy to fool me as I am extremely technically illiterate. He finally gave up on me having asked to speak to the man of the house! That's where I went wrong. I should have put my husband on who knows nothing at all about computers and is a bit deaf. He could have been on ages....

    In October 2010 I had 1 at 43 mins and 1 at 38

    Lightweights!!!

I've managed ... One hour and 45 minutes :rotfl:

I work with cows on a wednesday morning, so after lunch, I was just going for a shower when 'Micro$oft' phoned.
Just like the OP, I acted dumb and said that it was really slow booting up etc etc, then I kept re-booting even though he told me not to :-)

Went for my shower with the phone on loudspeaker, then I told him it wouldn't boot up at all - etc etc, blah blah

Eventually he decided that he'd fixed it and wanted my credit card details - I said I didn't have one and please could he put me an invoice in the post - this took another age arguing that it wasn't possible etc etc.

Finally, MrsB phoned my mobile as she couldn't get thru on the landline and the rude man hung up on me

He did give me a number to call with any problems I had = 0800 520 03 04
I've not tried it, but if anyone fancies a call .... ;)

Even worse is that a Windows system can run perfectly well and still show "errors" in the event viewer (which is where they direct you to) - but this is perfectly NORMAL ;)

I am very happy to read that you did not fall victim to them :T:T:money:

Anyone tried calling them, claiming to be from BT and tell them there is a fault on the line?

Got my (15th) call since Nov 2011 earlier today. Sorry but my patience failed me and I told nice (Indian) lady, Julia, that I no longer had a computer. Nice Julia just hung up, did not even say goodbye. I know, I failed badly to keep them on line, sorry.
  • I have so enjoyed reading this thread! I used to get really annoyed when these scammers used to ring but then I decided to change my tactics and try and keep them on the phone for as long as possible so they can't be scamming anyone else at the same time. I can't claim to beat the record but I've spun various yarns like: being the CEO of a large company with my own IT department to sort out my computer problems; telling them only my butler fixes my PC; telling them that as a female I can't possibly do things like see whatever icon or symbol they're telling me to look for and pretending that my computer is catching fire. And they still stay on the phone! I always play dumb and that does seem to encourage them into thinking they can con me. I usually get rid of them by putting the phone on speaker and singing (really badly) for a while. I'm usually laughing my head off out loud at them all the while and find it hard to believe how they still stay on the phone.

Sad, but it's becoming a sport in my house. Shame we haven't had any calls for a few weeks!
I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.

i only managed a paltry 15 minutes - we got as far going through control panel etc, right click on 'allow remote user access' (or whatever) and 'tell me what it says when you right click'
I said 'oh, it says, don't be stupid, why would you want to allow anyone remote access to your computer'..... there was a pause, and he said 'no, no, right click, what comes up' and I just repeated 'don't be stupid.... that's really what it says....' .... he hung up.:)

I've never answered a call from this lot, as I have caller id so never answer calls from unknown numbers or numbers I don't recognise.
I say if its a legit phone call, they'll leave me a message:)

Who knows they may have never called me;)
