Indian Windows Call Centre Scam - Finally get MY call

Well, after many months of feeling snubbed and truely left out - I received a call from the Indian Call Centre :j

( Now - remember I am running Windows 7 and was bored ;) )

As soon as I got the call I recognised it for what it was, and checked the time and decided to try to delay him as much as possible

He started off by telling me to make sure my computer was switched on. Even though it was already on - I waited a whole five minutes before I finally tell him it had booted up. ( told him on a couple of occasions that it was really slow and probably infected, but as I was an idiot I didn't know how to repair it :A )

Next he tells me to click the "Windows Circle" in the bottom left. I told him that I couldn't see one. This went on for several minutes as I kept telling him that all I could see in the bottom left was the clock ( which was a total lie ;) ).

He puts me on "hold" - which turns out to simply putting the phone on the desk as I could still hear everything in the background. Anyways, after another few minutes, another voice comes on the phone, he explains that he is the supervisor and starts to ask the same question - "what can I see in the bottom left corner of my screen"

Finally, he decides to ask what I can see in the top right. Getting rather bored at this point, I told him I could see some writing. I "mumble" the word to him "UBUNTU" and he really does not understand - so after another minute or so, he asks me to spell it..

U-B-U-N-T-U... His reaction?? Nothing, he really does not understand :p

Then he asks me what version of Windows I'm using !! I tell him that I thought he was working for Windows and that he could see all my "errors" and why didn't he know? He decides to tell me that, because of the errors, it is hard to tell from the data he has in front of him. ( :rotfl: Got him to repeat this twice (and very slowly) by telling him I didn't understand his accent :rotfl: )

So, I finally let on that UBUNTU is not a Windows system. This confuses him even more, before the penny finally drops and he says that he works for "Windows" (NB: not Microsoft!! ) and hangs up :rotfl::rotfl:

Total time :- 23 mins

I really hope that I get another one as I will try to improve on the time :D

Spur of the moment thing - I really wish now that I had told him not to worry and that it was a dual boot system - then made them wait another 5 mintues whilst I "rebooted" to Windows :rotfl:

Still waiting for mine. A friend was visiting her elderly parents and happened to answer the call from an Asian sounding chap from "Windows." She argued with him briefly and pointed out that Windows isn't even a company before he hung up. Disturbing to think that her parents, who do have a computer, could quite easily have been taken in by it, which is why they persist I suppose.
Will have to work on my delaying tactics, but like your effort!

    Hi

Had one last week about a virus on my BT broadband. When I asked him why I should open my browser, he hung up plus I don't have BT broadband. :rotfl::rotfl:

Not fair - I've still not had any!

I have here (on my Linux-based PC) a pristine WinXP virtual machine installed under Virtualbox, just waiting for the opportunity. I'll give them remote access and see what they do, which should keep them hanging on for a while.

I already have a snapshot of it in unmolested state, so all I have to do is shut it down, revert to the snapshot and it's ready for next time...

BTW - well done, 23 minutes is pretty good.

had a phone call yesterday saying they where from microsoft, lol, new computer, new build, new install of operating system, i dont think i got any problems, only 1 my router, which is now working perfectly, guess it needed a time out, turned it off for a week, directly connected internet to computer, aka modem to computer, instead of modem - router - computer.
what did i do, put the flaming phone down. i've had at least 7 of these calls, this was the 1st of this year though.

Just tell the caller your name is Rajendrakumar, but "you can call me turd."
We should build up our own script to handle these callers....:)
