    I shouldn't post if I can't back it up! I read about this 4x consumption and thought it was in the Which magazine but looking at their website I can't see this.
    I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!

    Can one of the people who know something about these answer me this;

    I was looking at one of the AOC ones which had a contrast ratio of 1200, just had a look at the LG one which is 1500 the samsung ones are 5000. Are these figures important and are they comparing like for like or are there two differnt measurements. Also i need to get on with buying one got about £400 to spend any views on the best for that money, the alternative is to get a more expemsive one which i would do if i can get it on interest free credit somewhere. Any opinions much appreciated.

    The contrast is important. A good one now is 10000-1, but is supposed to be getting higher. Avoid anything less than 1000-1 (unless they're virtually giving the TV away). I've seen that recently in Currys - 800-1 I think it was - unless it was a misprint.

    The contrast shows the screen black/white, and the higher the number the better the contrast - blacks look blacker, etc. Just take a look in any TV shop and then compare the contrast ratios.
    The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.

    The plasma screens I saw in Currys and the Panasonic shop recently by far outshone all the LCD's. Great picture, no blurring (on motion), pin sharp. But, I have seen a Samsung LCD in Richer Sounds that was EXCELLENT! But it might have been showing something HD! (it was the new BBC Robin Hood series) There is no doubt that the Samsungs LCD'S IN RS were by far the best picture there. 37"-42" inchers.

    There's a lot of confusion around at the moment.

    Not necessarily true.

    You're comparing Dynamic Contrast with Static Contrast, which is an invalid comparison.

    The numbers are effectively meaningless anyway as there's no uniform guide for measuring it, as by definition it's a ratio.

    Has anyone seen any Which? reports on these things - LCD/plasma - recently? They're usually fairly good at sorting out this type of thing.

    I don't know where to post this question so i'll ask in here.

    I have a HD ready TV. Do i have to buy a cable or sky HD box or is a digital HDMI set top box the same? (even if i already have freeview)
