Hmm, I'm actually more drawn to the Polaroid 32" that's on the Currys website for the same money (if only because it has 2 hdmi instead of the LG's 1).......plus 3% via quidco and the 10%off code brings it down to ~£350

    But is it anygood?

The Samsungs I saw on test in Richer sounds were by far the most outstanding in picture quality. Pin sharp.

But I gather that plasma is supposed to be better.

Having the same dilemma myself, plasma v lcd in my opinion the plasma is the better picture and the price is dropping fast. But i have the feeling lcd will win the battle, the samsungs are by far the best lcd picture when viewed and compared side by side instore. I think i will be taking the plunge on this one.

IF plasmas are better in quality then why bother to spending millions On rR&D to design and produce LCD tvs?

BEcause plasmas have image burn problems, they are much more power hungry (leccy bills) are heavier and the LCD are much sharper in picture when being fed through a HD signal.

Don't even bother with taking what you see in stores as gospel. Stores use many tactics to sell you the expensiver ones and not only that, but they only tune in a few of the teles, they don't tune all of the settings on all of the, So it is not conclusive .

Hmmm, not sure about 4 times - are you comparing like-for-like ??

Cnet did an excellent review of power consumption last month between various types of television, Plasma, LCD, CRT and Rear Projection. On average, LCD's used about 15% less power than Plasmas.

Pay an extra £60 for the new model, better TV all round :), its the
Samsung LEM86/7 and can be had for £1060 before any codes at PC world, its a bit more on Dixons and Currys but each site has there own codes so take your pick ;)

    Its a great LCD.

About this LCD vs Plasma, LCD is catching Plasma in terms of blacks, i feel LCD shines out more than Plasma in the HD world, for SD then Plasma wipes the floor clean with LCD as LCD shows everything wrong with the picture where as Plasma can hide the artifacts etc.

The Samsung LEM86/7 is one of the best LCD's on the market and for the price it can be had for is a steal.

Remeber that the LED-LCD TV's are coming out at the end of the year ;)
