Just to add to Ginjim's post, you can get (trying to keep it simple):

    - HD DVD or Blu-Ray player
    - Xbox 360 with HD DVD player add-on
    - Playstation 3 (comes with Blu-ray player built in)
    - Foreign satellite HD (more complex to set up)
    - Sky HD
    - Cable/Virgin HD

These would give you HD. I've put them in very very rough terms of quality - e.g. a HD DVD version of a film would be expected to look better than if Sky broadcast it, but I don't know whether Sky HD is better than Virgin HD!

An upscaling DVD player or freeview box, even if they are connected to your TV via HDMI, will at best give you a standard resolution picture upscaled to a HD resolution. But if you've got a HD TV then it's worth getting an upscaling dvd player to play your existing DVD collection, as you can get them quite cheaply - e.g. I got one for 30 quid from Aldi IIRC.

Yes that is what i will get next for my DVD collection, i don't mind not having HD TV programmes at the moment because the picture on my LCD TV is fantastic.

    Hi folks!
about to buy this from argos as a tv for my bedroom, I know there have been a few posts on it but it seems they are mainly using it as a monitor. Anybody out there advise if it is a decent buy to be used just as a telly?- looks it to me but then what do I know? !

Having done some Googling over the last month I'm trying to scrape some pennies together before it goes back up - it seems to do well in discussions and reviews. There are some reviews on Amazon too.

On the HD thing - you don't need to subscribe to Sky at all to get BBC HD. Have a look out for the Humax HD-2000 and similar. Some often feature an LNB out - so you can run your normal Sky box and HD box from the same dish/LNB (although not at the same time).

I have been looking around for a while for a LCD "37" the above is available from John Lewis at £849, but I have checked through Kellko tonight and Empire Direct have it for £679.99.

Before I part with any cash could someone advise me on this television and if it is okay and also are Empire Direct okay I haven't used them before.

    Thanks in advance.
