15 year old son trading goods at cex

Hi

After a little advice if anyone can help.

My 15 year old has set himself up an account instore with CEX using his debit card.

He has done this without our knowledge and has been trading in games etc which dont belong to him.

Can anyone offer any advice as to what I can do to get the things back etc and if they are allowed to deal with him as he is only 15.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • According to their T&Cs he is supposed to be 16 for an account http://uk.webuy.com/help/storehelp.php#membership_requirements

But of cause it could be your son has lied about his age.

As far as I am aware there is no legal requirement for you to be a certain age to be able to sell "your" own items. Generally companies dont want to deal with minors due to the fact that contracts arent binding on minors but are on the company and so everything becomes one sided in favour of the minor and so its best practice not to rather than the law.

You can have a debit card from age 12 at some banks.

Theres no doubt in my mind hes lied about his age, Im just wondering if I can get the things back that he has sold that werent his to sell?

His own stuff he can do without.

Having a dig about it being a parenting issue is not helpful really is it?

I imagine it would be an enormous load of hassle getting your goods back. Why not require him to replace your goods at whatever cost it costs you to replace them (ie probably more than he sold them for)?

Did he sell your old stuff that wasn't being used any more but just wasn't his to sell, or has he sold stuff that has greatly inconvenienced you? Why did he sell your stuff? Because he wanted the money for something, because he was angry at you or because he could and thought you wouldn't notice?

He has sold his brothers games that were given as christmas presents. He "doesnt know" why he needed the money and is now sorry (because he has been caught).

He will pay for the stuff back, he has, well had christmas money left over and he has an ipod touch that is now being sold to replace it.

Im going to the shop now to see if they can give me a list of whats been handed in so I know exactly how much im dealing with, though I dont know if they can/will. I am also going with his birth certificate and get them to close the account, again if I can.

Im at a complete loss and have warned him if its more than he has admitted to I will take him to the police. We cant live a life of no trust and watching everything :0(

    Hiya,

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Before you go any further it might be worth discussing possible actions on our Families Board. It'll give you some time to think rather than shooting from the hip.

I can move this thread across there for you if you wish...?

how much did he get and do you have the money to pay that back?
why dont you take your son in and get him to get the information? or am i not being helpful with that suggestion either?
