Wow Alfie what a gorgeous riot of colour!

The weather here has gone from sunshine to pouring rain and back again over and over today which was really frustrating! However we are hoping to get out in the garden tomorrow and to get a few more things planted up :D

Our recent work on the house has been completed and now it is ready to be decorated, I am so looking forward to having the room finished so that I can enjoy it :)

Plants are gorgeous, alfie. As is Mabel :D

I need more colour in the garden at this time of year, everything is grey & drab. My cherry tree hardly flowered this year & half of it looks like it's dying :( The trunk & some branches are all green, doesn't look good.

Maggie, are grape hyacinths also known as muscari?? I think I know what plant you mean. I always used to call them Nana Muscari ;)

Is CTC away at a show?? Not like her to not post. Hope all is well.

    Still day-dreaming here.

Fantastic plants, alfie! :T I'm just back from delivering ours to the sale in the village hall, where DW will have more fun than I would, selling them! :D

Beautiful clear day here with huge visibility, but the wind from the north is knocking temperatures down to 10c or so. :(

I posted a whole reply and it seems to have gone?? Maybe in my forgetfulness I deleted it without posting??

Anyway, I think CTC is at wonderwool in Wales this weekend.

My plans are to go out in the garden and get the rest of the essentials planted as the weather is lovely today :D Just need to get a whole heap of compost as we have not made enough to cover our needs.

DW off to a funeral nx week while I mind hearth, home and business.

Have sowed most of the tender stuff indoors now, and a few bits and bobs outside. Looking at the tree fruit blossom starting I may be tempted to aid pollination as there aren't many bees about :(

Got to say I could have cheerfully strangled one smug londoncentric weather presenter recently, extolling the fact that London was basking in 22C but might see temps drop (what a shame!) while we were struggling in 10C gloom

:D I know the feeling, rhiw. It's ruddy cold still & some parts are still due frosts. When the sun shines it's accompanied by a bitter wind :(

We've got a lot of bumble bees but I haven't noticed any honeybees around yet. There's the odd butterfly, too. Mind you all the flowers are so far behind (unlike over alfie's way) that it's no bad thing if the insects take a while longer to appear.

I was listening to Radio 4 this morning & heard this about the cuckoo http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22320841
I do think climate change may have more to do with the loss of various species than the old chestnut of automatically blaming 'farming methods', pesticides etc. in this country.
I'll wait & see if we hear the cuckoo this year.

Well, the church plant sale made over £500, which wasn't bad for an event with little publicity at not the best time of year. However, it turns out that they're going to hold another in about a month's time.....

While DW was doing that, I was belatedly emptying the dustbins full of dahlia tubers and potting them up. Deadly dull stuff! :( So, at the end of the afternoon I took myself off to plant things in my stream garden. :D

Off for fish & chips in the evening in one of our favoured spots about a mile from Crediton. We'd parked and were standing at the back of the car, when a hawk took a blackbird from the hedge a few metres from us and flew with it, still squawking, across the field. Our presence didn't seem to worry the hawk at all, but then, it was the work of a moment.

Our pigeons have given up trying to nest in the barn, but the jackdaws had a fine supply of sticks for nest building all last week! :rotfl:

Yep, that's right, Pink Poppy. The bees are still coming to them, but they're beginning to look a bit bedraggled now. It was great the day we got home from London - the front garden was just a sea of blue, with the pink of the quince to contrast. Columbines have flower buds now, just need a few more warm sunny days!

I feel so much better about my garden and the way it is heading!

Today I planted my garlic, more potatoes and artichokes straight into the garden and I sowed:
    • Broccoli (3 types)
    • Cauliflower
    • Cabbage
    • Sweetcorn
    • Courgette (3 types)
    • Pumpkin
    • Peas
    • Beans (3 types)
    • Kale
    • Chard
    • Cucumber
    • Tomatoes
    • Brussel Sprouts
    • Various lettuce and salads
    • Different flowers

There is still a lot that needs to be planted direct but the weather was variable today and the beds for these need to be cleared. However I have achieved loads this weekend and I am delighted!
