It was when we had really well below zero temps that other winter that they died. I always had them where ever I've lived & they came from my Mother originally. I would love to get some more as they were so hardy. You are supposed to be able to eat the 'cheeses' the seed head & they are quite crunchy.

Good afternoon from your very own harbinger of doom.:o

Just seen the BBC weather forecast for the weekend.
Those of you living to the East will enjoy warmer, sunny weather  while us poor b*ggers to the West will have gales & rain :(
    Nothing new there then

I can't remember where these were in the cold winters; probably in the pig sty cold frames I made.

I can send you some later when these have bulked-up a bit. Give me a nudge in the autumn, when it should be OK to move them. :)

Just as well we've got quite a bit done this week, though tbh we do need some rain. Just chipped the ivy we cut down a few days back and mulched a side bed. Got some seed compost and planning which seeds to start off, will do that tomorrow.

And we've been parcelling for Wales, ten today including 7 by courier, no let up in sales atm and I'll be logging on later to an auction thats on today where we have 15 lots entered and hopefully sold!

Good luck with the auction, rhiwfield; every penny helps. ;)

Choille, I have been looking at photos and it's possible we're not talking about the same mallow. You mentioned purple, but mine is more pink or mauve/pink, as in the second photo on this page:

    http://www.sacredearth.com/ethnobotany/foraging/mallows.php

But I can still send you some seeds. :)

I'm glad I did a bit of research, because I was planning to plant mine near the stream, and now I realise that won't be sunny enough.

DD2 got a result today. Last week, someone got into her rented house and stole an I-pad from the bedside of another female student who was asleep. Stuff has been going missing for a while.:( Requests to the letting agency to change the locks fell on deaf ears, despite the police recommending this. Anyway, DD did a bit of digging and discovered their deposit hadn't been protected and they'd not been given the name or address of their landlord. What's more, the LA refused to discuss these matters with her.

Fast-forward to today and DD arrives at the LA with a couple of mates and, crucially, a local news reporter..... Suddenly, things which were impossible last week are strangely not so hard after all! :rotfl:

    Dave

    I assume DD2 knows

    1. that legally she can change the lock barrels herself any time (most cost £5-10) and just put the old ones back in when she leaves?

    2. That failure to protect their deposit means she can take the LL to court and claim upto 3 times the deposit as a penaly?

    3. That is it impossible for the LL to serve a legally effective S21 or any other notice whilst they hold the current unprotected deposit. The EA have to return the deposit in full before they can serve notice (these last two as a result of the localism act)

    4. That in the absence of an address for the LL (even if that is c/o the EA) she does not have to pay rent (until the address is provided).
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

through my own endeavours...it is ILLEGAL to NOT put the landlords full name and address on any corespondance via LA.
has a previous tenant still got a key ?? id ask police to enquire.
also illegal to NOT protect deposit... if due to landlords ignorance of requests to change locks and it was a previous "key" then he can be sued in the small claims..
