    We have rain! :j

A month ago I didn't think I'd be pleased to see the shower we've just had, but with everything parched and wind-blasted this is exactly what's needed....

    ....preferably art night! :rotfl:

Lovely lamb, ferretkeeper. Driving along yesterday, one of the highlights was seeing all the lambs in the fields around the edges of Exmoor and knowing they wouldn't be facing any frosts in the next week or so.

and I was just about to ask if you are taking orders for lamb for the freezer:rotfl::rotfl:

Unless the other sheep has unspectacular lambs I will be getting some lambs in from somewhere else for freezer, not eating either of the two I've got so far - too much in love with them!

    :( NOOOOOOOOO.....

    i couldnt eat what i care for...:o soft i know...just me.

I know exactly what you mean Alfie, I'm that type of person too, totally soft when it comes to animals! But for me it's the opposite, as a part time meat eater anyway, because I've cared for the animals and knew the whole story etc I feel safest eating my own meat than any other.

In fact it's only since I started keeping livestock that I stopped being veggie all the time, and I rarely eat meat when I go out or from takeaways etc unless I'm somewhere I trust.

EXCEPT one time I went to my Mum's and she was cooking a casserole for us. I saw the packaging the chicken was in, not free range/organic etc and that was the hardest meal to eat ever!

I didn't want to offend her but the thought of eating the farmed chicken... Anyway I managed to dodge most of it and got just the veg :rotfl:

    I've been Money Tipped!
I think my little tree peony which was coping with frosts and snow etc might have lost the battle with the east wind. :(. It's little leaves are all withered and drooping.....about to fall off. :(

Mean while, I also think this is the first year I have had any real loss of strawberry plants. Time to restock with better quality varieties for taste maybe, if we have to restock anyway.

Rummer sorry about your cat. I'm sure he had a good life with you. That's all you can do & be there when they are in need as you were.

FK - I have a right old mix of sheep - Hebredians, shetlands, blackface & some ehhhhhhhhhh t'others. T'others are a sort of muddled hill sheep that's very hardy & its parentage questionable.

Another huge black male arrived this morning with horn buds - ow

Alf, well done on the Bay sales

Lir, we've not had the plant damage that we've had over the last two winters, possibly because we are sheltered from easterlies. Our bay tree which was nearly killed in the last two winters is now looking fine. But what we are seeing is plants staying dormant much longer than usual.

I think our strawbs are mostly ok, just beginning to see growth.

    Nice lamb, fk.

The wet is usually much more of a problem for the lambs than the cold, Dave. What is never welcome during lambing is heavy, persistent rain &, of course, deep snow :( The cold has also held the grass back so there's precious little in some places for them to eat.

We've a blaze of daffs growing around the place. They always look a picture on the hillside up to the 'copse'. Usually they've gone over by now but, like all of us, they were put into cold storage ;)

No sun today & a bit damp but no real rain. We did have some overnight, though. It's still going down to around freezing tonight so we're on hold as far as sowing seeds is concerned. The ground needs to warm up (without getting completely washed out) now.

My tree peony is in a pot and it's OK, but an unidentified tree I grew from mixed seed, which might have been a Judas Tree, was hit by the frost in the polytunnel and has lost all its developing leaves. I suppose it may grow some more yet.....

Just rescued a Marshmallow, which we've had sitting in the same pot for 4 years now and should by rights be dead. It's still viable and in 3 chunks. :)

I was wrong about the metal roofing; the owner is willing to sell it, but he has to look for the receipts first! :( Hmm... How is it Alfie doesn't have these problems when she wheels & deals? Where am I going wrong?

I was going to say it's a gender issue. Maybe you need to be wearing the dress your wife made???? ;)

Oh the fleece possibilities :j Shetland is a gorgeous fleece to spin and I am sure you would make a pretty penny for a pure white first shearing good quality fleece!

Yes Rummer, I have been having a look over her today and she is lovely and soft! Is it worth selling the fleece or should I be greedy and keep it for myself?! ;) I could mix it with my white alpaca to make a bit more of it or I know where to get some angora...

Very sorry for your cat, it's so hard to let anyone go :( but you know deep down it's for the best...
