Will other companies be the same????
Ordered through Boilerjuice who we've used several times with no problem. Oil company used, Butler, has also delivered to us without problem as do all the other oil companies, and they all use 4W tankers. Road is clear, in good condition, not icy, but for some reason the driver decides that an adopted public road which has been safe to use to deliver oil for nigh on 30 years is suddenly too dangerous
Butler were my regular supplier until 2009, if I recall they changed their order contact to a central unit instead of the local depot and their price on the next quote was 5p above competitors so I stopped using them if they were prepared to load prices for a regular customer.
Will start phone calls shortly but unless BJ can get a replacement company out fast I'll cancel the order and source direct. Either way I dont expect CH for a while so we'll restock on wood today which we've been buying by the carload which is a bit expensive.0 -
Hate to think what your normal oil co would make of some locations near here rhiwie!0

Ditto with my Devonians; Dave. They are half way up the side of Dartmoor with some interesting bends in the road. You cannot get a large vehicle in anyway because of the bridges (although the occasional coach driver decides to try and blocks the main road for several hours). In the snow the last two Christmas its been a challenge for 4 wheel drive vehicles.
rhiwfield - has anyone got the right to over-rule the driver and re-view the road on the ground? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
RAS, ops director meant to be contacting me but I'm not holding my breath. Order has been switched to another supplier and I expect to get the delivery by Friday now.
Issue seems to be the size of Butler's 4W tanker, companies like tankers to hold as much as possible but if the size is too large it defeats the object of accessibility. Ah well, one company scratched off the supply list
We've gone soft. CH has morphed from luxury to necessity over the years. Setting and lighting the fire used to be the first morning job, now it is once again :rotfl::rotfl:
Although we now have quite a few cold rooms (incl bathrooms) we have power and we have heat in the offices and lounge. So much better off than many atm without power and with blocked roads.

 Same old story, isn't it, rhiw? I bet the driver could make it if it was HIS house.
You've been here. I'm presuming that your place isn't like this?
Big tankers are more economical for the oil companies - they can do more deliveries in a smaller area, too. Old-fashioned customer care & looking after the regulars is a thing of the past. It's what makes the most money & makes it the fastest with the minimum effort & outlay that's what they want. Add to that drivers who can't drive on anything less than a wide, flat A road & this is what we get.
Take care of the sinuses. Neither the cold nor the smoke from open fires is great for them0 -

I am now seriously thinking about going on the canadian ebay site ( or somewhere cold) to see what type of cold weather clothes they have different to us... as surely they must have some sort of specialist cold clothes, but know in my luck as soone as I order something we will have a heatwave:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Work to live= not live to work0 -

CTC, you'll know the importance of layers and breathable/wicking undergarments to cover legs, torso and arms. Final top layer to be windproof to stop windchill. Thick soled boots to stop cold transmission, warm headwear, and work steadily/slowly to prevent sweating that chills on skin.
It must get warmer soon though, please!
Take care and I hope things are working out now.0 -

But at least you'll have some warm clothes for our so-called summer!
And they'll be ready for next winter too.
If we get a heat wave after you order it will have been worth it anyway! :cool:0
