Morning all:j:j
Glad you got home safely Maggie, I am the same as you, once my feet are cold that's it my whole boy is cold, and t takes me ages to warm up..
I am having problems with my front bottom teeth, and the last time I went to the dentist, she did say they might need to come out:o:o:o:o:o:o
I could only get a private dentist, and the monthly fee I pay, I think it would be better to wip all my teeth out and have false, it would save me a fortune..:rotfl::rotfl:
I watched the countryfile weather, next weekend:eek::eek::eek::eek: We could potentially have heavy snow:eek::eek::eek:
TBH I honestly feel as though we are on another planet, or a paralell universe or something with this weather..
Rhwie.... this weather has caught out all the growers/garden centres etc. as they have geared all their young veg/flower plants for easter weekend etc... but no one wll buy them, unless peeps have poly tunnels, large greenhouses etc..and If I had time, and the plants were reduced down, I would prob be one of those :D
ooooo and one last thing our remaining Turkey laid an egg yesturday:rotfl::j:j ..so the plan of buying a few turkeys for crimbo, went abit pear shaped, with 2 being sold as pets, 1 Just keele over and died just after christmas, and the remaining one is in lay.... think I mght keep an eye out for a stag turkey..now...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Just been speaking to the wife of the local "squire" (who farms an awful lot of acres round here).
They lost 11 lambs last night, and have lost a lot more due to the mix of freezing rain and copper deficiency caused by the heavy winter rain leaching chemicals out of the soil. They have also lost cattle
Their lambing sheds are full to bursting but there is very little nourishment in the grass if they are put out.0 -
No, there's no nourishment in the grass, Rhiw, &, after last year's weather, the silage is pretty poor, too. Add Schmallenberg & other various animal diseases & it's a nightmare.
I know I've whinged about the weather we've had (as we've had 5 bad summers & increasingly cold winters) but it really does get through.
Even the youngsters are complaining but, if you're older or not so well, this is depressing at best & a killer at worst.
At least I feel lucky in that we aren't snowed in with no power - been there, done that & it's not fun. I really feel for those that are in that position.
I truly think this may be our new climate pattern, CTC.We've all but given up tryig to grow much. The greenhouse would need to be heated for months. A lot of what gets planted gets washed out. The rest gets too leggy from lack of light. Some things which are planted later are almost impossible to bring to maturity in the 'window' the weather allows.

The summer we bought this place it was hot and good here. It was baking actually. We got the hay in before the rain came, and then it didn't lay forever like this.
We'll probably buy hay rather than trying to cut this year. Local contractors are so expensive that it seems like a list cause trying to cut.
Glad this is a 'short week'.0 -

Yes, many places have had good weather ....... but not here.
The Gulf Stream &/or Jet Stream seem to be shifting & allowing the weather which was historically north of us to come south. Hence we get much more wet so more floods. Add the colder winters to the increased rainfall & we get more snow.
The East tends to get more continental-type weather which has always meant warmer summers but colder winters than the West. However, mainland Europe is also getting more extremes of weather so depending where in the UK we are & which side's weather gets the upper hand we Brits get the worst of both worlds :rotfl:
The weather from the East has to put up a really good fight to beat back that from the Atlantic. It hasn't managed to do that well enough here in recent years. You're further east, LIR, & so generally benefit from continental sun before we do.0 -
Yep think you are right ITSME.... when we had the first load of bad rain and flooding a few years ago, they said it was 1 in xxx years that would happen, because of the unusually low gulf stream weather pattern, BUT it has been happening every year since... and last year was the worst ..and this year hasnt started well either a 1/4 of the way through the year.. and its bleak...
You can see the prices of fruit/veg grained food going up and they are not in the ground yet ( or only just)
This is the worst year I have had with feeling the damp and cold, and this chesty cough etc is just not shifting..
Even our youngest is now saying he is cold all the time...( doesnt help he walks around the house in a t shirt and him p.j bottoms:rotfl:
Rhiwie that is soooooo sad about your local land owner, He is not alone I should imagine there are loads of farmers pulling their hair out with this crap weather, and with the price of hard feed going up all the time...:o:o
Wish I had the time to help them in some way... as every time they lose a lamb or any livestock its their profit down the pan, plus potential future breeding stock....Work to live= not live to work0 -
I've given up waiting for better weather & just gone out in it. It's 2.2c at the moment but well into double figures in the poly. Trouble is, that doesn't hold onto the heat at night.
The wind is cutting up here, but down along the bottom hedgerow it's sheltered, so I've been completing the work there as best I can. Let's see: a vest, tee shirt, shirt, two jumpers, overalls, coat, long johns....no wonder I couldn't blimmin move quickly....
actually, I was sweating like a pig! :rotfl:0 -
Six inches of snow here on Saturday morning and a bitterly cold east wind. Snowed on and off until last light. Yesterday was even colder in the morning. Normally the park is full of kids and sledges after any snow fall often with teens and 20s out into the evening; barely a soul over the weekend.
The south end of my plot is slightly sheltered because it is close to the houses and a couple of nearby sheds help. Managed two hours although not quite a muffled up as Dave: vest, long T, very thick fleece (polar bear style with "fur" on the inside), thermals, scarf, hat, windproof jacket and the wonderful neoprene wellies. As maggie noted if the tootsies are warm , it is easier to keep the rest going. Did a lot of gross pruning as with one elbow out of action for two years and last year's frozen shoulder the fruit bushes needed a good thinning. Still need to do the fine pruning but that is the sort of thing that needs slightly better weather!
We still have one colonie of bees.
Paths lethal this morning and generally not a good idea to walk close to buildings as minor avalanches sweep off the roofs. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
RAS, frozen shoulder is just awful!
I'm going to have to be more risk aware with these weather changes and keep oil tanks topped up as, without the promised delivery, our CH is now switched off. Will be off to shops tomorrow to get another electric heater so that the three essential rooms can be heated. Even so it will be extra clothes layers.
As for the oil company..............:mad::mad:0 -
