Morning
Snow on the ground todayso certainly no gardening here.
CTC I hope your changes are going to be for the better
LIR sounds like a break would do you the world of good.
There is so much to do and think about atm that I would really like to have the garden to escape to for a few hours.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Another batch of trees arrived yesterday and we still had a few of those used on the front hedge heeled in, so we planted128 trees today!
That sounds impressive, but most of them were only 30-40cm high, so it wasn't too bad. We've set them into nursery rows to grow on for a season, then they'll be relocated. If we eventually get a 90' hedge for under £35, that'll be a bargain.
We're impressed with the service from Hedge Nursery, and I'll let you know how we get on with Hopes Grove which are the other growers we've tried this year. Buckingham Nurseries were fine in the past, but one order we had from them spent the weekend in a depot somewhere and we had a few failures with the yews. They were pretty cheap though, and the survivors have grown well.
Our Aga man told us to avoid one of the oils Itsme, but I can't remember which one.We always end up buying from the same place and their stuff has caused no issues.
CTC, whatever you're up to, I hope it goes well.0 -
Hope everyone who has snow is ok... we are lucky here, no snow BUT it is bitterly cold..
Rhiwie:eek::eek::eek: re- heating oil, so does this mean this company will not deliver again??? is there another company you can phone???
Talking to one of the neighbours up the ranch today, he is reaaly moaning about the weather, as he said most of his seedlings on the windowsils are desperate to be re-potted now.. but he just hasnt got enough room on the windowsills, he doesnt want put them in his greenhouse, as he said he would need to heat it, but cant afford to...
Plus he thinks it might be another carp year for veg again..Work to live= not live to work0 -
Rhiw - I hope something gets sorted with your oil. We have to have a small 4W tanker & few companies seem to have them now, In fact, I think some may share.
When we first moved here we had tons & tons & building stuff delivered for the conversions. Some came in full size HIABs & big trucks. There were seldom any problems. The drivers were all locals who knew the roads & their vehicles. Then we started to get more drivers from out of area & companies also started charging drivers for bumps & scrapes to the vehicles. So the drivers now play over cautious.
We've even known some drivers who reckon they can't get their lorries down the 'main' road that the coaches use.
Dave - I'd be interested to know which oil your guy suggested & which he said steer clear off. Personally, I have wondered if the oil companies don't clean out the small tankers between carrying different oils. It's also certainly seemed to build up residue in our oil tank quicker now. This delivery was from a different company than the last but I believe they use the same depot &, therefore, the same oil.
Luckily no real rain & no snow here but a bitterly cold wind. Wedding went off OK. I could entertain you all with the saga but discretion is the better part ........ in case I upset any evangelicals amongst us :rotfl:
I am not religious &, if I were, it would definitely not be of the banners & pantomime evangelical sort. Ruddy thing went on longer than the Pope's inauguration  I felt like I'd been shipped into the sequel to the Stepford Wives - Stepford Men Too.:rotfl:0 -
Sorry Itms me, clean forgot.. about the wedding..
everything went ok then. even though it went on a bit, by the sounds of it..
what did they wear? colour scheme, small, big wedding, ???:D:D:D:D:DWork to live= not live to work0 -

Can't say much on an open forum which could identify it, CTC.so have PM'd
However, I can say it was the first time I've ever been to a 2hr wedding service (all done standing up) where the marriage itself was done & dusted within about 45 minutes. The Registrar had obviously been to one before, though, as he shot out the back door at the first opportunityThe remaining hour plus was taken up by singing of very long, oh how long you can't believe _pale_, Praise songs with an 'audience' who looked like they were suffering from St Vitus Dance while balancing invisible trays above shoulder height.
Not sure of exact numbers ....... between 120-150 to sit down. Of that number about 20-30 were from the 2 families. We (the families) not being religious & being more used to the more traditional ceremonies, all spent a large part of the time looking at each other in a mixture of amazement, surpressed hilarity & outright disbelief.
They did the couple proud with the food, though.
We left the Best Man heading for the nearest pub for a well-deserved & day-long delayed pint ....... or 2...... or 3.....;)
Imagine having to give a speech to a room full of people who you don't know the large majority of whom are all 'born again'. He did a great job, bless him.
I'm sure the communion bread was a slice of Hovis0 -

And I think I missed it first time around; your relation to the groom, that is! Congratulations and well done. If you think 2 hours was long, just remember a Hindu wedding goes on for days and my DD2's man is Hindu! (though largely non-practising.):rotfl:
Sorry, the only thing I thought I'd remembered about the oil is the word 'Maxibright,' which turns out to be a smokeless fuel, so that isn't right! It was over 3 years ago now.
We just use the oil from one supplier, without additives, and the Aga runs for up to 6 months, no problem.0 -
2 hours .
Thats a life sentence!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I expect a 4W tanker up here on Monday, company in question normally deliver without any fuss at all. In meantime, woodburner on constantly and CH on for just an hour in the morning to avoid running out completely and creating an air lock in the feedpipe.0 -

Oh the proverbial air-lock
How come these c*ck-ups always happen when it's just about to go really cold or snow? They never seem to happen when it's a sort of topping up, doesn't really matter for a day or two time. Hope it gets to you as arranged.0
