Yes, feel the same re the seed planting, but haven't yet cleared the raised beds.
Well, looking at the long range, it doesn't look too promising for early cropping so you should have time to do the clearing. I think I'll be taking my toms & peppers out of the conservatory at night by Sunday.....:(0 -

Morning all:j:j
Alfie, super squeezy hugs.....
Alex, why don't you put your place in an auction? that way it will sell, and it will find its own price.
Hopefully by the end of the monh ( easter?) all the mayhem that has just started with us, would have settled down, so I can start doing some sowing etc.
still can't get my head around which would be my best option postage wise when the prices go up.
It looks as though it is myhermes, but I have head soooo much bad stuff about them, might have to just suck it and seeWork to live= not live to work0 -
The builders arrived at 7.30 on the dot, as usual. That's impressive on the last day of the working week.
Here's a picture of what the end of the barn looked like last Sunday. Later on, I'll post a picture of what it looks like when they've finished today.
You can see from the picture that we had some fairly bad rotting at the base of the untreated poles. All that's been cut away and the poles tied into the pillars and the walls. Fortunately, all the other parts of the barn have the poles set in concrete.0 -
It's really a biting wind from the East again today so not much getting achieved/attempted outdoors. Rare breed sale in the morning so that'l be an earlyish start.
Glad we got a load of wood done for the stove as it looks like snow again & the wind gets inside somehow.
The poles look like the ones we will get off the hill - I think I shall use some for a trellis thing near the house. Leccy guy was saying that some are so rotten they've split when they were dropped, but it'll make good burning wood.
Will eat the last surplus cockerel tonight as we've given a couple away & they need to go as they get that aggressive way. We've had quite a lot of good meals out of them. Last night we had venison again mmmmmmmmmmm, so all in all we are sourcing our food locally!!!!! & just as importantly relatively cheaply & we know what it's been eating & what species it actually is..........0 -
:hello:Just de-lurking to say best wishes and dodgy hugs :grouphug: to Alfie, Itsme, Rozee and everyone else who needs them. Fingers crossed for choille's roof being completed soon and that lir soon gets her heating/hot water problems sorted.
CTC, can't believe it's approaching the Ranch's anniversary..where did the time go?
Well, I've decided that I'd best make the most of the garden space I do have, rather than sitting here and waiting for the Lottery win :rotfl:, so when we had our two days of summer earlier this week I dug over our three raised beds and emptied two of the compost bins onto them ready for sowing some seeds. Typically, it has rained ever since, but I'm sowing some onion seed and some peppers in the conservatory this weekend, so I shall at least feel as though I'm doing something constructive. Like Rummer, I know that it's a bit too early here to sow much, but everything will catch up if I can curb my enthusiasm.
Lovely to see the pictures of how everything's going, Dave. Looking forward to news of Mr Dog's reaction to the tree-cutting.

Ventured out today for the first time, so slowly getting better - just as the wintry weather returns0

Dare I say it's quite nice here now? We've had some sunshine, but when Pete & I went to cut the trees, it tipped down for most of the time.
I don't think Mr Dog was there when we took the trees down. :(Someone with a van I've not seen before was working on the site and there were 'engineering' noises, but I've still no idea what's going on. Mind you, it's none of my business anyway!
The better weather has recently brought the children next door out on a couple of occasions. Would you believe that we've not seen or heard them since Christmas? They didn't go to the Panto this year, and although I can't be sure, it's possible that 2.5 months have elapsed since they last set foot outside. :eek:0 -

The charity cottage has 3 kids in it who are much the same, Dave. We've seen them twice since last September. Once for 20 minutes to build a snowman & last weekend when they had some friends round & they played in the garden which was previously unheard of. Had to chuck 3 footballs back over the hedge.
We certainly can't complain about the noisy children because, normally, we wouldn't know they were there. :rotfl:
The yappy rug rat (one of two but only one is an absolute pain) is another matter
I still don't know why a working single mum with 3 children, 2 dogs & 2 cats wants to live in the middle of nowhere. It can't be for the sake of the kids. They're never seen outside :rotfl:
The cats fight with each other, the dogs chase the cats. It must be hell on earth inside that place.
Workmen have been in there for the last few weeks so the dogs have been outside a lot of the time. Usually they're just locked inside to jump up on windowsills & bark at everything that moves outside
Thanks for the thoughts, covenanter. Like Rozee, I'm gradually shaking the lurgy off but I'm not looking forward to the return of the bitter weather as that's the last thing needed for chesty problems.0 -
Glorious here now. We've got the man doing the asbestos survey. Yet another possibly £500 plus quid spent on bureaucracy?
He's very nice and wants to sell up and buy a smallholding now his kids have left home....0
