My additional observations on my above post is that it's easier to manage/control a medium sized law practice than it is to control the events of a family and a five acre smallholding :D

I've had a 'quiet' day today, so just planting seeds in the morning and then scrapyard in the afternoon + a supermarket top-up while we were in civilisation.

Oh and I picked up the car, which talked to a computer last night in another place. Apparently, the computer said there was another broken wire, which was duly found & repaired, so no expensive part to buy after all. :j

The scrapyard was an education. The office is at one end of a huge emporium full of army surplus and 'stuff,' the weighbridge is at the other end, and the place where you throw the metal out is in another yard altogether! It all added up to a lot of hair raising reversing and running about with pieces of paper, but the end result paid for the supermarket dash. :D Despite the chaos, the scrappie's paperwork was spot on; I suppose it has to be nowadays.

Edit: Just read your post rozee. Many, many people in the supermarket were coughing, sneezing and looking miserable today. I fear for my health every time I go into town! Hope you & yours are soon over it now....and t'others on this thread who aren't 100%.

I'm starting to feel vaguely human again after over a week, so thanks for your well wishes, Dave.

When I was a teenager, I had a boyfriend whose dad owned a scrapyard. Happy days :)

Isn't life so much better at the start of spring?

OK spill, what seeds are you planting now? You are my seed planting guide ;)

Alfie huge hugs, I hope your son and dad both make a quick recovery. Please take good care of yourself.

Oh nothing exotic, just parsnips, onions, salad leaves and stuff like that.

My toms and peppers are doing OK so I may not need to sow any more of those. I usually do a later batch and they generally catch up. That's why I don't think an early start is crucial. I might do some bog-standard toms for the church sale though.

I'd be tempted to sow more if I knew when we'd get the first of the outdoor deep beds finished.....:o

Right now, the focus is on building, with the barn taking on a much more 'finished' appearance as the open end is enclosed. This will give us a huge capacity for log storage, which is the secret of trouble-free wood burning. We'll keep a through draught in there, as it needs that whether it is being used for logs or hay. ;)

Coincidentally, at the same time as we submitted our plans, our field neighbours on the other side of the stream submitted their plans for a first floor extension. No doubt they'll be looking at our plans on the council web site, same as we've been studying theirs. We can't see their house from our place, so it's not something we know about.

And finally, Mr Dog has had the week off, so all hell has been let loose up there, with diggers and massive skips, but what it's all about no one knows. No planning permission in his case.....Of course he would do that in the week when Pete's coming to cut down the willows. I can normally rely on him being out on Fridays! Watch this space! :rotfl::rotfl:

Alfie - huge hugs, hope everything settles down soon. Make sure you look after yourself as you're in the middle of the misfortunes!

Rozee - illness is the main reason I decided I didn't need the space I thought I did. My acreage domination plan has been thwarted since I was reminded of my own mortality :rotfl:Get well soon!

I'm keeping up every day with what you're all doing but have no progress to report. I'm on the hunt for a new job and there's only about a month before the contract with the estate agent comes to an end. I don't know what the next step will be yet.

Hugs to everyone, whether you need them or just to be friendly!
