The builders started work this morning at 7.45!
Still, it looks like a really good day in prospect, and I expect they'll want to knock-off early and have some of it for themselves.
We are getting 10 eggs a day now, and with no fence there was nowhere to put up our "Eggs for Sale" sign.Yesterday, our prayers were answered when a regular customer called to say she would always take any surplus we have. Now there's someone who knows a good deal when she sees it!
Glad you are both feeling better rhiwfield. You will soon make up for lost time, I bet!0 -
busy bee builders, brilliant...
Rhiwie, I have been trolling the different sites too, last night and this morning...
I agree with you the likes of myhermes and collect plus will see a huge increase, and sadly the local post office will see a slump:o
Even though buyers will know about the increase etc, they will still want things delivered for next to nothing, and then when you give them a good price, they will knock you down for the delivery time.
Re- the auctions etc, it might be worth you going down to ffairfach on the last saturday of the month.... it is hit and miss, and you are standing round, its a livestock and general crap sale:rotfl: but last month there was some really good bric-a-brac stuff..
might be worth a day out to have a lookWork to live= not live to work0 -
We have been sending small but regular boxes to US and the cost is staggering. Often more than the cost of the contents.0

To make an auction worthwhile (apart from the fun of it) we need to spend enough to cover car costs at 45p a mile plus Ebay and Paypal fees and make a decent profit from whats left. Sounds like there may be a few gems at Ffairfach but probably not the quantity we'd need to turn a profit after costs.
But it can get a bit boring just doing things to make money so we might take a trip there one day for fun0 -
You can tell the weather is nice, no one is on the thread:rotfl:
I need to try an look to see if there is any festivals I could potentially sell my wares at.
Someone mentioned faery festivals that they do, sounds fun, but I don't know if hubby could cope with all the 'hairy fairy' stuff
I sell some stuff to people that do these festivals, so I might as well see if there is any scope for me.Work to live= not live to work0 -
I am still here  I just haven't been doing much in the garden
There just never seems to be enough time to get everything done although we are planning a trip to the tip tomorrow and our garden bins are full from all the weeding that we have done. This weekend coming I am keen to get the beds cleared properly as the boys just turned them over as they were soooooo weedyTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Hi all - reading the threads on ebay too about the postal increases for packets - quite a stomach churner.
Been a bit of movement here on the roof, but run out of money again so will have to get on with other tasks. Got a load of insulation so we must try \& get some more floor done.
Rare breed sale on Sat so have a couple of pairs booked in. But nowt much to be made from that as it's 70 miles away....just doon the road.
I have done no gardening & everything looks really weedy & overgrown. I must try harder, but just not enough hours in the day at the mo.0 -
I was too kernackered to post here last night, after another physical day!
We've had to barrow quite a lot of soil up to the front in order to sort out the hedge planting there, but the good news is that 50% of it is done and the rest should go in today, God-willing.
The builders are doing a 1st class job on the barn, and I'd definitely give them a chance to work on the extensions, but the Dad, who's the best brickie, is having a replacement elbow soon, so I'm not sure how that will work out. He's supposed to be retiring from the heavy stuff.
A property similar to ours nearby, which has failed to sell in 3 years, has once again applied to the council to have their agricultural tie lifted, and again, the parish council have recommended refusal. The fact is, they're asking too much for a heavily extended Woolaway bungalow, with all the structural nasties that can harbour. We bore them in mind when re-planning here, and we don't have the Woolaway stigma.
I have a little sympathy for the owners; they see plenty of people around these parts not complying with their ag-tie and no one doing anything about it, but they ought to realise that a concrete panel build, no matter how much it's extended conventionally, isn't going to leap off the shelf at £435k. There's plenty of places without issues or ties for that money.0 -
I see that price comes after 2 reductions, Dave. I'm not quite sure what they think commands the price.
Well, I actually managed to sit outside for a short while yesterday. It was warm, sunny & there was no cold wind (which makes a change).
Sadly, it didn't last. Today me, my bunged up tubes & hacking cough are back indoors. The only plus is it hasn't actually rained ......yet. It's due tonight.
Next week temperatures are due to drop again with the nights below freezingso don't go mad & plant things out unless you can protect them.
Oh, meant to say before but forgot - for those interested in self-sufficiency (not sure that's quite the correct term as would they survive without the money from courses etc.? ):

I've lost track of the exact price....They have a great view of Dartmoor, and not much standing between it and them, so a windy site.
I bought some pork chops from the Hidden Valley pig man last year. They were OK, but a bit 'piggy,'if you know what I mean!:rotfl:
Sorry you still aren't feeling great. Maybe winter abroad in the future, eh? :cool:0
