We seem to get a big mix of birds up at our feeders, so whatever is dropped by some species is hoovered up by others. Very little is left around. We've not fed much this year, as it's been so easy for them.
As for chook food, it's removed every night. Doesn't stop the blackbird nipping in first under the tin to get his share before I let the birds out in the morning!:rotfl:0 -

But decomposing rats smell horrible, even a dead mouse is bad enough

Yeuch. Our mices in the attic have clogs on and we usually give them a treat of poison now and again.

I am not saying anything re rats, as I don't want to tempt fate.
On the subject of dealing with 'orrible things, I thought I was bomb-proof after working with a friend at the age of 16 to bury hundreds & hundreds of chicken innards, which had been sitting in the sun for a few days in large vats......No problemo!:D
But....about five years later, my college studies took me to a tannery in the town nearest to lir, where I was shown the process from cow to cowhide....or rather they attempted to show me. There was a high % of nerdy, wimpish girls in our study group, but I'm ashamed to say it was only me sitting in the car park and refusing to go back!:o:o

Firstly, Happy St David's Day particularly to our Welsh dreamers & lurkers.
I'm now officially peed off.
March has definitely not come in like a lion - more like a damp squib. Looking longer term (well, until the last week of March which is as far as forecast goes) it's just more & more of the same.
It gets a bit warmer for a couple of days & then goes back to single figures. Oh .......... & the rain returns.0
